In the far future, The Punisher’s battle against crime will take on a more ominous tone. The latest Daredevil series, “Daredevil: Born Again,” is now streaming on Disney+ and can be found on your TV screens and mobile devices. However, in the comic books, a new “Daredevil” series delves into the distant future to explore what retired superhero Matt Murdock, also known as Old Man Murdock, is doing. The comic book series titled “Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell” presents one of several potential futures for the Marvel Universe and sheds light on a particularly grim turn of events for characters operating at street level, with The Punisher being significantly affected.

Title #1 of the series “Daredevil: A Bitterly Cold Hell’s Day” comes from the collaboration of writers Charles Soule and Steve McNiven, along with letterer Clayton Cowles from Visual Creators (VC). The narrative delves into the life of retired Daredevil, Old Man Matt Murdock, who has lost his extraordinary abilities. However, this changes drastically when an explosion in a subway re-ignites those powers within him. As Matt delves deeper into the mystery, he witnesses Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, selflessly giving his life to save a child. The culprits escape with Cap’s shield, which they deliver to their superior – none other than Bullseye.

This Bullseye appears to be past his prime; his hands quiver uncontrollably without any support. His associates inform him about an elderly red-haired man, dressed as a clergyman, who attempted to interfere with them. Recognizing this individual as Daredevil returning to action, Bullseye decides to demonstrate his authority by presenting Captain America’s shield to his captive – a severely injured Punisher.

Initially, the depiction of the Punisher is quite distressing to behold. It’s not merely about his advanced age or baldness. Rather, it’s because he has been mercilessly held captive by Bullseye for an extended period. During this confinement, Bullseye has mutilated him so severely that he is now limbless. The wall behind Punisher bears numerous bullet holes, hinting at Bullseye’s possible use of Punisher as a target. The countless scars across Punisher’s body serve as stark reminders of this brutal treatment.

On his chest, the emblematic skull logo of The Punisher is etched deeply. His limbs are linked to some sort of electrical power source, and a table in the room showcases Bullseye’s instruments of torture, like saws, pliers, hammers, and so on. In a taunting manner, Bullseye waves Captain America’s shield around, knowing that Frank Castle has always admired Steve Rogers.

“You miss the old days, Castle?” Bullseye says as he taunts Punisher. “‘Cause I sure do.”

In “Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell,” there’s a strong indication that Daredevil will soon clash with Bullseye. It’s logical for a Daredevil story, particularly one set far into the future, to involve Bullseye. The initial pages reveal that Kingpin is no longer alive, and Matt Murdock spends his time paying respects at Wilson Fisk’s grave instead.

In the comic book series “Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell,” unlike their previous encounters such as in “Daredevil: Born Again,” the confrontation between Daredevil and Bullseye may not follow the familiar pattern. While Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, might regain his powers, he remains an older man like Bullseye. Moreover, there’s a high probability that Daredevil could lose his abilities once more, which could be detrimental if Bullseye gains the advantage in their fight.
