Comic book video games can be hit or miss, but Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man series consistently delivers. It’s widely considered one of the best adaptations of a comic book character ever made. The first game came out on PlayStation 4 in 2018, and was followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales in 2020. In 2023, they continued their success with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, maintaining the high quality of the original game. Because of this, fans are eagerly anticipating a third installment.
Currently, Insomniac Games hasn’t officially announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. They’ve been focused on Marvel’s Wolverine, which is planned for release in late 2026. However, despite the lack of confirmation, rumors suggest they are also working on a third Spider-Man game to conclude the trilogy. It’s taking longer than many fans expected, especially since Insomniac usually releases these games every two to three years. It now seems likely that Spider-Man 3 won’t be available until the next PlayStation console is released.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 Could Take Longer Than Expected

The ending of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 features two scenes after the credits. In one, Norman Osborn visits Doctor Octopus in prison, and he’s writing something titled “The final chapter.” The other scene shows Miles Morales meeting Cindy Moon, who comic book fans know as Silk. This strongly hints that Silk will be a key character in the next game. Spider-Man 2 let players control both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, so it’s likely that Cindy will become a playable character once she gains her powers. While this is just speculation based on these scenes, it seems like a natural next step for the game series.
Online rumors indicate Miguel O’Hara, also known as Spider-Man 2099, might be a playable character in the next game, suggesting it will be a much larger and more intricate project than previous installments. If true, this could mean fans will have to wait several years before they can play it. Adding to this, there’s talk of potential spin-offs like a Marvel’s Venom game, which could further delay the release of the main Spider-Man sequel. Some fans are worried this could mean the game won’t arrive until the PlayStation 6 is released.
Currently, it appears the next major Spider-Man game from Insomniac won’t be released until at least 2028 – five years after Spider-Man 2. There’s even a chance it could come out later than that. As for the PlayStation 6, Sony hasn’t announced a release date, but experts predict it might arrive in late 2027. If that happens, the PS6 could be available before Spider-Man 3, potentially skipping a release on the PS5 altogether. This would be disappointing for PS5 owners, especially considering how difficult it was to purchase that console, as the PS6 is also expected to be in high demand.
Spider-Man 3 Might Arrive on the PlayStation 6

A potential Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 for the PS6 would likely be visually stunning, especially considering how great the first game looked on the PS4. However, Sony should also release it on the PS5 to reach more players and avoid disappointing fans – that would be the best approach for the game’s developers, Insomniac. Don’t expect official announcements anytime soon, but you can find the latest news on ComicBook.
