Marvel’s Storm Wields Vibranium Armor to Battle Her Own X-Men Team

In the current Storm comic book series by writers Murewa Ayodele and artist Lucas Werneck, Ororo Munroe, an Omega-Level mutant known for controlling weather, has been revered as a wind deity, Elemental Mistress, and Queen of Wakanda. However, after saving civilians from a catastrophic power plant explosion in Oklahoma, she was exposed to lethal radiation and given only a few hours to live. In an attempt to save her life, Doctor Voodoo struck a bargain with the ancient spirit Eégún, who agreed to heal Ororo. But this healing came at a cost: for seven days, Ororo would be barred from using her mutant abilities.

Following a summons to Latveria by the Sorcerer Supreme and the God Emperor Doom for discussions regarding mutants, Ororo breached her agreement with Eégún, leading to her demise. Known as Storm of Earth, she was no more. Later, Ororo was brought back to life by Eternity, the Cosmic Entity, in January’s issue #4 of Storm, reborn sporting a new gold and white outfit.

In the aftermath of an epic showdown for the universe in “Storm” #5 (dropping Feb. 19), where the eternal champion squares off against Oblivion, I’m eagerly anticipating Storm’s confrontation with her X-Men comrades. As she harnesses uncharted cosmic energy to safeguard Professor Charles Xavier during the sprawling 7-part X-crossover event, “X-Manhunt,” unfolding across upcoming issues of Marvel’s “X-Men” series.

In March, Storm, Earth’s strongest mutant, will put on a suit of armor crafted from vibranium – a tribute to her past as T’Challa’s wife and the queen of Wakanda. This issue ties into X-Manhunt. The design for Storm’s vibranium armor was done by guest artist Luciano Vecchio (Resurrection of Magneto). A sneak peek at the design can be found below in the attached sheet.

Vecchio explained that the primary influence for the Vibranium Armor was Ororo’s role as Queen of Wakanda. This design incorporates elements of the Dora Milaje armor, featuring a recurring motif of Ororo’s crown on the weapon handle and capes. Additionally, it carries a hint of the style seen in Marvel Rivals, with its bulkier accents.

In issue #6 of Storm, entitled “Thundercloud,” set for release on March 5th, the Thunder War starts to rumble. Marvel has also revealed the titles for upcoming issues:

* #7 – “Serpents, Salamanders and Storm Gods” (April)
* #8 – “Sinister Schemes of the Stars and Stripes I” (May)
* #9 – “Sinister Schemes of the Stars and Stripes II” (June)
* #10 – “Thunder War Commences” (July)

Storm #5 (One World Under Doom)

Time no longer delays! The struggle with Doctor Doom, Supreme Sorcerer, fades in significance. Instead, a fierce battle looms in a dimension beyond our own – the Realm of Manifestations. Here, Eternity, the physical manifestation of our universe, clashes with Oblivion, the embodiment of nothingness. The destiny of our cosmos hangs in the balance. Who else but Ororo Munroe, the Eternal Storm, could defend our universe? How will she face off against the timeless primordial giant, Oblivion?
