Director Jake Schreier, who worked on Thunderbolts, has not definitively stated whether he will take charge of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe’s X-Men reboot. During an interview with Collider at the Mediterranea Film Festival, Schreier was questioned about his ideas for the X-Men project. Although he did not confirm or deny his involvement, he shared his vision for such a venture, emphasizing the significance of developing well-rounded characters and collaborating with gifted writers to create an engaging storyline. He also hinted at wanting to bring a fresh perspective if given the opportunity to work on X-Men.
As a movie critic, I’d put it this way: “While I wouldn’t be at liberty to discuss that specific film, I can share my general approach. It’s all about delving into the characters, collaborating with exceptional writers and creatives, and striving to bring a fresh perspective to each project I undertake.
According to reports, Schreier has been linked to the X-Men project ever since Thunderbolts premiered in early May. Despite Thunderbolts’ modest box office earnings ($381.3 million globally so far), its positive reviews have positioned Schreier to revive Marvel’s mutants on the big screen. Although Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced the X-Men project, Ryan Coogler’s recent statement seems to confirm that Schreier is indeed directing the film.
The X-Men reboot within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hasn’t been penciled into the release calendar as of now. However, hints suggest that the X-Men saga could take center stage post the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Secret Wars. As for Kevin Feige, he has emphasized the significance of the X-Men in the MCU’s future and is rumored to have a 10-year strategy planned out for these characters.
First Steps and don’t want to divert attention from that project with premature announcements about films still years away. However, given Ryan Coogler’s recent comments, it seems likely that the directing job is Schreier’s, though it remains unofficial until Marvel makes an announcement.
For now, it seems like Schreier has an intriguing vision for the X-Men. The Thunderbolts series garnered praise due to its strong character development. Schreier delved deeply into the team’s human aspects, touching upon thought-provoking themes that made the movie relatable to viewers. He’s also correct in emphasizing the need for innovation in the X-Men reboot. The Fox film series was a significant player among 21st-century superhero franchises (with its share of highs and lows). Therefore, it’s crucial that the MCU’s reboot doesn’t just follow the same path. Here’s hoping Schreier gets officially confirmed for the X-Men project soon so he can start working on what promises to be a remarkable film.
