The first issue of Ultimate Endgame marks the start of the end for the Ultimate Universe, and it’s packed with surprises. While everyone is focused on The Maker’s terrifying changes and his grim city, there’s a subtle shift happening with Doom that’s easy to miss. But the writer of Ultimate Endgame hints that this change is more significant than it appears.
ComicBook recently spoke with Ultimate Endgame writer Deniz Camp about the first issue, and she discussed the noticeable change to Doctor Doom’s costume. Camp confirmed the new armor was a deliberate choice, not just a visual update. She encourages fans to consider the reasons behind the change and how it might reflect Doom’s state of mind, hinting that the series will explore his psychology in more detail. She enjoys adding these kinds of subtle clues for readers to decipher.

The first issue of Ultimate Endgame doesn’t show off Doctor Doom’s new suit very well, but a variant cover gives us a clearer view. You can even see it compared to his older suit. Unlike his previous, streamlined design which resembled Iron Man’s, the new suit has a more classic Doom look, and it will be interesting to see how that plays out in the story.
Doom Is As Important To The Ultimate Universe As Stark Is, And Ultimate Endgame Isn’t Changing That

Even though the story initially centers on Iron Lad, the character of Doctor Doom and his motivations will be central to Ultimate Endgame. According to the writer, this event is as much about Doom as it is about Tony Stark, and readers will discover the reasons behind this in upcoming issues.
Camp shared that Doctor Doom has been a key figure throughout his work on the series and will continue to be. He’s a significant part of Endgame, and we’ll be seeing even more of Doom in the future. He also suggested that the story is arguably as much about Reed Richards, considering The Maker’s role, as it is about Tony Stark.
Camp stated that the characters entering the city will be central to the story, with many appearances and unexpected developments planned.
Ultimate Endgame #1 is in comic stores now, and issue #2 will hit comic stores on February 4th.
