Wolverine PS5 game release date speculation

As of today, Marvel’s Wolverine is planned to be released in Fall 2026, based on information from the official PlayStation blog.
In a late January 2025 interview with Variety, Chad Dezern, a leader at Insomniac Games, didn’t say whether or not the Wolverine game would come out in 2025.
We’ve revealed Project Wolverine, and while we’re excited about it, we need to be patient and keep details under wraps for now, just like the character Logan. We’ll share more when the time is right.
We’re really excited about our upcoming projects, but we can’t share many details just yet. That’s all we can say for now.
After that, we didn’t hear anything about the game’s development for over a year. Then, on September 24, 2025, a State of Play event finally revealed when it would be released.
What happened with the Wolverine leaks?
In December 2023, Insomniac Games was hit by a cyberattack where hackers demanded a roughly £2 million ransom in bitcoin. When the studio refused to pay, the hackers published confidential information about their upcoming projects online.
CyberDaily first revealed that the breach exposed ongoing game projects, financial information, and private data about Insomniac Games’ staff. Insomniac then issued this statement:
Wow, I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the kind words and support. Seriously, it means the world to us. We’ve been really bummed and honestly, furious about the recent cyberattack on our studio. It’s been tough on the whole team, and we’ve been focusing on taking care of each other these past few days.
We know the data that was stolen included personal information from our current and former employees, as well as independent contractors. It also contained some early information about the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine game for PlayStation 5. We’re working hard to figure out exactly what data was affected, and this situation has been very upsetting for us.
Our goal is for players to experience our games the way we envision them. Despite recent challenges, like the cancellation of Logan, Insomniac Games is moving forward. Development of Marvel’s Wolverine is still underway. As with any game, it’s early in the process and will likely change and improve over time, and that includes our overall plans.
We’re grateful for all the excitement surrounding Marvel’s Wolverine! We’ll share official details when we’re ready. Thank you for your continued support and patience.
Which consoles and platforms can play Marvel’s Wolverine?
Marvel’s Wolverine will only be available on PlayStation 5. This is because the game is being created by Insomniac Games, a studio that belongs to Sony.
Because of this, it’s unlikely the game will ever come to Xbox Series X/S or Nintendo Switch. A PC version is possible, similar to what happened with Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War, but there’s no confirmation, so it’s best not to expect it.
Will Marvel’s Wolverine come to PS4?
No, Marvel’s Wolverine is not expected to come to PS4 at any point.
Marvel’s Wolverine is designed exclusively for the PlayStation 5, meaning it will only be available on that console when it’s released and for the time being.
Can I pre-order Marvel’s Wolverine?
No, pre-orders for Marvel’s Wolverine are not yet live.
We’ll update this article with full details as soon as stores publish product information. The price isn’t finalized yet, so we’ll be watching for that announcement. Everything should become clearer as the launch date approaches.
Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay and story details
We still don’t know much about how the game will play or its story, but PlayStation recently shared some details in a blog post. Here’s what they revealed:
Our goal is to create the definitive Wolverine experience, combining the intense, dynamic combat, spectacular action sequences, and inclusive accessibility options Insomniac is known for, all wrapped around a powerful story that truly captures the essence of this iconic comic book hero.
We’re doing something new with Wolverine, but we still love telling stories about heroes facing impossible challenges. We’re excited to share Logan’s story and show you a side of heroism that’s grittier and more intense than what you’re used to from our games.

We don’t anticipate Marvel’s Wolverine being directly connected to the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe movies or the older X-Men films originally made by Fox.
Marvel Games appears to be developing independently, so we’ll likely see Wolverine’s movie appearances celebrated through character skins or costumes in their games, rather than a direct game tie-in.
Unfortunately, Hugh Jackman won’t be returning to the role. Liam McIntyre will be taking over, following previous appearances in games like Gears 5 and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
The latest post doesn’t share specific details about how Wolverine will play on the PS5, but the official PlayStation Blog explains that the game is being led by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian. These directors recently oversaw the creative direction of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a game Insomniac Studios is very proud of.
Just like with our Spider-Man games, we want to stay true to what people love about the character while also adding our own creative touch and making it feel uniquely Insomniac.
Although Marvel’s Wolverine is still in the early stages of development, what I’ve seen suggests the team is crafting something truly special, with a strong emotional story and innovative gameplay.
Jeff Grubb adds that the game is expected to draw heavily from God of War, featuring a large, but not fully open, world to explore.
The upcoming Wolverine game is expected to be rated for mature audiences due to its intense violence, similar to the movie *Logan*. According to sources, Hugh Jackman will not be involved, and this game will be a separate story, not connected to the previous *X-Men* films from Fox.
Insomniac Games consistently delivers action-packed and creative combat in titles like Spider-Man, Sunset Overdrive, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. We’re excited to see what they create for their upcoming Wolverine game on PS5.
Marvel’s Wolverine trailer
In September 2021, Sony revealed the initial trailer for the PlayStation 5 game, Marvel’s Wolverine. The trailer depicts Logan inside a rundown bar, eventually revealing his Adamantium claws, and is set to James Carr’s song, “The Dark End of the Street.”
