Masked Singer’s Double Elimination Reveals Oscar-Nominated Actress

The Masked Singer had fans totally bugging with a double reveal.

Hey everyone! Last night on the singing show, we had to say goodbye to two more incredible performers – Handyman and Scarab. I know you’re all wondering, just who was hiding behind those amazing costumes? It’s always such a fun reveal, and I’m excited to share who they were!

Handyman was the first to go, although he noted in his clue video, “I’ve been known to stand out.”

But as he explained, he suffered “a painful accident” that “changed my voice overnight.”

“I didn’t let that discourage me,” Handyman went on. “And surprisingly, my unique voice started getting noticed. Soon, I was working all over the place – on the radio, in films, and even doing voices for children’s programs.”

Before Handyman performed “Can I Kick It” by A Tribe Called Quest, the judges noticed a bear wearing a 90s-themed shirt and holding a microphone made of ice. When they then spotted candy wrappers on stage, they immediately guessed the celebrity contestant was a rapper.

Jenny McCarthy was the first to guess Chuck D from Public Enemy. Ken Jeong remembered a clue from the previous episode – an Ace of Spades – which made him think it was Mr. T. Rita Ora considered Ice-T as a possibility based on a frozen microphone clue. However, only Robin Thicke correctly identified the performer, recognizing the voice of rapper Tone Loc, known for his song “Funky Cold Medina.”

Nick Cannon, the host, playfully referenced Tone’s popular song, saying things were getting exciting with a nod to the lyrics, “It’s officially a ‘Wild Thing’ over here!”

The Grammy-nominated rapper was thrilled to be involved in the competition, and he was particularly happy he could now share that experience with his kids.

Tone explained that his kids jokingly challenged him to speak to the audience. They didn’t think he would, but he ended up enjoying himself.

He added, “I’m 59 years old and I’m still having fun.”

But the ‘90s rapper wasn’t the only star to bid the stage farewell: The Scarab was also unmasked.

While sharing a clue, she mentioned her dad always believed she’d succeed in Hollywood, and the camera focused on a small rocket ship as she spoke.

“He told me I was going to be a huge star,” Scarab said, “and that I’d be nominated for an Oscar.”

Everything her father had predicted happened, including the Oscar nomination. Sadly, he died just a week before the ceremony, making it a very emotional night for the actress.

She said it was difficult to look happy in the pictures from that night, but she and her mom tried to enjoy themselves anyway. “He would have really loved it,” she added.

Scarab then launched into an emotional rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun.”

Her final clue was a roll of cookie dough, and she explained to the judges that she’d faced “a lot of baking under pressure” to achieve her current success.

Honestly, the judges were really surprised when she was unmasked! Everyone had their theories, of course. Robin actually changed his mind, going from Sheryl Lee Ralph to Regina King, while Jenny stayed firm with Angela Bassett. Ken was really focused on the details of her costume – the green and pink – and ultimately guessed Cynthia Erivo from Wicked. But it was Rita who nailed it! She correctly guessed it was Taraji P. Henson, the amazing actress from Empire – you might remember she was nominated for an Oscar back in 2009 for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Nick chuckled when her mask came off. “It’s finally her! We’ve been trying to get you on the show for 14 seasons – you’re our most accomplished guest yet, and we’re so glad you’re here.”

“I’m so glad to be here!” Taraji exclaimed, then playfully asked the audience, “But seriously, who voted for me to leave?”

Even though it was sad to say goodbye, the actress from Hidden Figures actually liked the experience of remaining anonymous.

She explained that having a mask gave her a sense of freedom and confidence. ‘It allows you to let go and really perform,’ she said, ‘because people can’t see you—they just see the character.’ She described feeling uninhibited while performing, but emphasized that the singing had to be live. ‘You can’t fake it with lip-syncing,’ she added.

And sing she did, ending the show with a rendition of Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain.”

The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
