N7 Day is coming up next week, and fans are already wondering what BioWare will reveal about the next Mass Effect game, which many are calling Mass Effect 5. BioWare hasn’t done much to lower expectations for N7 Day, hinting that they might have something special for fans – a contrast to last year. However, after the disappointing launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare might be cautious about making big announcements too soon. Still, getting fans excited about Mass Effect is the best way to move past the issues with Dragon Age, though that’s proving to be a challenge.
Okay, so BioWare is keeping things pretty quiet about their plans, but their Executive Producer, Michael Gamble, definitely got Mass Effect fans talking! Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer – the voices of female and male Commander Shepard, respectively – met up at MCM Comic Con and posted a picture together. Gamble then retweeted it with just a salute emoji. Naturally, everyone immediately jumped to the conclusion that they might be coming back for the new Mass Effect game, and honestly, I’m right there with them hoping it’s true!
Deleted Post
After people began to speculate, Gamble removed the post, saying people were overthinking things. However, deleting it actually seemed to suggest the speculation was true – that they weren’t involved in the game. This aligns with a recent statement from Hale, who said BioWare hasn’t contacted her about the new Mass Effect.
Essentially, this doesn’t reveal much. However, it suggests that the developers don’t want to create false hope about Commander Shepard’s role in the next Mass Effect game – meaning Shepard likely won’t be the main character, if featured at all. This is all still just guesswork, which is what the developer was trying to avoid fueling. While some fans initially interpreted the original post as a hint that Shepard would return, the decision to delete it has now led others to believe Shepard won’t be back at all.
Just keep in mind that this is all just speculation. We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments, or join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum! Do you believe Commander Shepard will be back in Mass Effect?
