Masters of the Universe Director Wants to Join James Gunn’s DCU (& Fans Have the Perfect Movies)

The long-awaited Masters of the Universe movie is now playing in theaters, showcasing the classic showdown between He-Man and Skeletor. Director Travis Knight, a devoted fan of the franchise, clearly poured his passion into the film. Interestingly, Knight also loves DC comics, and after discussing a hypothetical battle between He-Man and Superman, he shared his desire to work with James Gunn on the new DC Universe. Fans immediately began suggesting which DC movie Knight should direct.

A recent Wired video sparked a playful argument about a potential fight between He-Man and Superman. Nicholas Galitzine championed He-Man, while Camila Mendes and Knight seemed to favor Superman. After Knight confidently predicted Superman would easily defeat He-Man, Galitzine jokingly asked if he was angling for a job at DC. Knight playfully signaled to James Gunn, DC’s co-CEO, hoping to get noticed, and fans quickly responded with suggestions for DC roles Knight would be perfect for, including Batman, The Titans, and Shazam, among others.

There’s A List of Projects DC Fans Want To See From Travis Knight

When fans learned that artist Greg Knight might be working on a DC project, they immediately started suggesting what he should create, and many of those ideas are really exciting. A popular choice is Shazam, and it makes a lot of sense – Knight did a fantastic job incorporating magic and fantastical abilities into his work on Masters of the Universe.

NeoXG expressed excitement about the possibility of seeing Nicholas playing Shazam in a DC movie, saying it would be fantastic. Green_Ink enthusiastically agreed, urging James Gunn to cast him in the role. While Shazam has already had two films and Black Adam only one, many believe Knight could successfully revive the character’s popularity.

As a huge DC fan, I’m seeing a lot of buzz about the Teen Titans being a great fit for the new DCU! Everyone seems to want the classic team – Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, and Cyborg – brought to life. I’ve seen fans like @Supermanfan_49 saying DCU should give that team’s creator, Travis Knight, whatever he wants to work on, and @ShirtRip specifically wants to see him tackle a Teen Titans project. @jimmylegends34 even suggested Knight could direct a Titans movie as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans, which I think is a fantastic idea!

Besides the big names everyone was talking about, a bunch of other awesome movies came up too – like an older Batman film, Suicide Squad, Justice League, The Brave and the Bold, and Aquaman. Honestly, I could totally see Matt Reeves – you know, the Knight director – taking on The Brave and the Bold or Aquaman, and he’d probably kill it with a Justice League movie too. Though, it looks like someone’s already signed on to direct The Brave and the Bold, so that ship might have sailed.

Right now though Knight’s focus is on Masters of the Universe, which is in theaters now.
