After years of attempts, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel are finally bringing a big-screen version of Masters of the Universe to life. The movie, directed by Travis Knight, tells the story of Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine), who returns to his home planet, Eternia, after being exiled to Earth as a child. Known as Adam Glenn during his time on Earth, he must embrace his destiny and reclaim his birthright to save Eternia from the evil Skeletor (Jared Leto). A recent trailer showcased the film’s impressive visuals, and now Mattel has released a new line of action figures offering even more details about the movie.
Mattel recently revealed new photos of its Masters of the Universe Chronicles action figures. This high-quality line is being released alongside the new movie. The first set of figures includes He-Man, Skeletor, Teela (played by Camila Mendes), Evil-Lyn (played by Alison Brie), and Man-At-Arms (played by Idris Elba), giving fans a detailed preview of what the main characters will look like and the weapons they’ll use.

Even better, the collectible figures show Battle Cat in his classic red armor and confirm that He-Man will be riding him into battle. Plus, we get our best look yet at the detailed, futuristic designs of Skeletor’s henchmen, Tri-Klops (played by Kojo Attah) and Trap Jaw (played by Sam C. Wilson), in the new movie.
Masters of the Universe‘s Accurate Designs Are the Right Choice for the Movie

The new direction for Masters of the Universe, with its bright, stylized look, is a smart move. The franchise started as a toy line, and its strength lies in embracing that playful, over-the-top design. Unlike many recent adaptations that try for realism, the creators are deliberately leaning into the inherent fun of the original toys. Characters like He-Man and Skeletor weren’t meant to be grounded in reality, so prioritizing bold colors and recognizable shapes is key. This approach helps avoid the pitfalls of other toy-based reboots. The 2017 Power Rangers movie, for example, failed to connect with audiences because it replaced the iconic colorful costumes with unappealing alien armor. Similarly, the 2009 G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra lost its unique identity by dressing its characters in generic black tactical gear instead of the brand’s signature look.
The large number of supporting characters highlights how dedicated the new Masters of the Universe series is to staying true to the original story. Instead of focusing only on the main heroes, the show is bringing a wide range of warriors to life on Eternia. The inclusion of characters like Fisto (played by Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson) is a great example – it shows the show isn’t afraid to embrace the more unusual heroes, even their strange appearances, without needing to offer explanations.
Masters of the Universe is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 5, 2026.
