The first trailer for the new Masters of the Universe movie is out, and it’s a clever move to focus on Jared Leto as Skeletor. The trailer gives fans a fantastic look at the characters and world of Eternia, staying very true to the original source material. The costumes and character designs are incredibly detailed, bringing everyone from Teela to Fisto to life on the big screen. This version looks much better than the 1987 film, though it includes some quick references for longtime fans.
The internet is buzzing with excitement! Fans are loving how accurately this beloved childhood franchise has been recreated, especially with the perfect casting choices. However, Jared Leto as Skeletor is proving divisive. His recent career has hit some bumps – last year’s Tron: Ares wasn’t successful, and many criticized his performance. This makes his casting in Masters of the Universe a bit of a risk.
The Masters of the Universe Trailer Hides Leto’s Skeletor Performance
The trailer for Masters of the Universe doesn’t show much of Skeletor. When he does appear, the emphasis is on his impressive design, which faithfully recreates the classic look. However, the extensive makeup and special effects mean you wouldn’t immediately recognize the actor, Jared Leto. Many viewers have commented on this on social media.
I’m not familiar with Masters of the Universe, but I have to say this creative team has finally found the perfect role for Jared Leto – completely transforming him with makeup and visual effects. Let’s see more of this approach!

Travis Knight has always been a fan of Masters of the Universe, so he was determined to create a Skeletor that stayed true to the original character. The bigger concern, however, is likely to be Jared Leto’s voice and acting – that’s harder to fix. His vocal performance could prove controversial.
Even the trailer for Masters of the Universe keeps Leto completely silent. While there’s a lot of talking in the trailer, he doesn’t say a single word. We see him, but he remains quiet, and Skeletor is presented as a powerful and active character. This approach won’t likely work long-term, but it allows audiences to experience the world of Eternia without focusing on Leto’s performance just yet. Right now, excitement is growing, and there’s nothing to dampen it.
