Masters of the Universe Tie-Ins Confirm Major Story Details & Tease 2 More Epic Characters

Mattel is investing heavily in the Masters of the Universe franchise, expanding it with numerous related projects. The new movie, directed by Travis Knight, is a clear tribute to the beloved 1980s cartoon. The initial trailer revealed a surprising premise: Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, was sent to Earth to escape a destructive attack on Eternia led by Jared Leto’s character. However, it won’t be long before the prince is back in the thick of things, especially with the legendary Power Sword within reach.

As a huge movie fan, I was thrilled to see Mattel is going all-out with tie-in books for the film! It’s not just the usual novelization for younger readers, either – they’re also releasing some brand new stories and a really cool art book that I can’t wait to get my hands on.

  • Teela: Daughter of Eternos – An original young adult novel, set in the film universe, written by New York Times bestselling author Mackenzi Lee that expands the story of Teela, Man-at-Arms and Evil-Lyn (Publishing June 2, 2026)
  • Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate – A new four-issue comic series set in the film universe of Masters of the Universe, from Dark Horse Comics. Written by Tim Sheridan, illustrated by Will Sliney, colored by Israel Silva, and lettered by AndWorld Design (Publishing beginning June 10 through October 2026)
  • Masters of the Universe: The Art of the Film– A coffee table book offering in-depth visual celebration of the cinematic world of the film (Publishing September 22, 2026)
  • Masters of the Universe: Legends of Eternia – A manga-style graphic novel set in the film universe, a first for the brand, from TOKYOPOP and written by Amanda Deibert (Publishing November 1, 2026)

You’ll find more details below about these novels based on the movie, which reveal important plot points hinted at in the trailer. They also introduce several key Masters of the Universe characters who might show up on screen.

Teela: Daughter of Eternos by Mackenzi Lee

In Mackenzi Lee’s Teela: Daughter of Eternos, published by Simon & Schuster, the story picks up four years after Skeletor’s attack on Eternos. Teela is now leading a group of survivors, traveling through the Evergreen Forest to find safety. She journeys to the dangerous realm of Darksmoke, home of the dragons, hoping to find a powerful elixir that can free Eternia from Skeletor’s control. This quest unexpectedly forces her to team up with Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s right-hand woman, but using the elixir has disastrous consequences, causing Eternia itself to begin to decay.

I’ve been following the story closely, and it’s now confirmed that Darksmoke is real! It’s this huge, domed structure hidden deep in the Ice Mountains, and it’s where the Dragons of Darksmoke live, ruled by Granamyr. Apparently, Granamyr is ancient – like, one of the oldest beings on Eternia – and was known for being incredibly wise, going all the way back to the old cartoon. His power comes from a special fire pit, and he’s collected lost knowledge and spells over the ages. Honestly, though, I’m a little worried about Teela trusting him. It seems he really doesn’t like humans, so it could be a dangerous situation.

The Wings of Fate by Tim Sheridan and Will Sliney

Fifteen years before Prince Adam becomes He-Man, the story of The Wings of Fate begins after Skeletor attacks Eternos. A wounded falcon – actually the Sorceress in disguise – finds shelter in the Mystic Mountains, home to the people of Avion. This introduces Strator, a winged hero and longtime ally of He-Man. He’s a kind and noble leader, protecting the Bird People and guarding two powerful objects: the Staff and the Egg of Avion.

In addition, Mattel has confirmed the following:

  • A Masters of the Universe junior novel, storybook, and Manga adaptation – all based on the film
  • Coloring books, picture books, and humorous tie-ins such as Skeletor Ate My Homework
