Since Mattel first created the Masters of the Universe toys and cartoon, it’s become a classic part of pop culture, introducing fans to the fantasy world of Eternia. The franchise has evolved over the years with new shows like the recent Netflix hits, Masters of the Universe: Revelation and Masters of the Universe: Revolution, bringing the story to a new audience. However, after a poorly received movie starring Dolph Lundgren in 1987, the franchise hasn’t appeared in live-action films for a long time. Fans have been hoping for a fresh, updated movie for years, and now, a new cinematic take on the Power of Grayskull is finally on the way.
Following a brief sneak peek, Amazon MGM Studios has now released the full trailer for the upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot. The trailer gives fans a detailed look at Nicholas Galitzine playing Prince Adam, who will become He-Man, the hero of Eternia. This new version tells a different origin story: a young Adam is sent to Earth and forgets his connection to the powerful Sword of Grayskull.
The story begins with the hero as an adult, finally taking his rightful place and returning to his home planet to confront the evil Skeletor (Jared Leto). The first trailer shows the studio has invested a lot of money in the film, aiming for a huge summer hit with impressive visual effects and a grand scope that honors the original story.
There’s a Lot to Be Excited About the New Masters of the Universe Movie

Early looks at the new Masters of the Universe movie suggest Amazon MGM Studios is staying true to the original stories and characters. Along with stars Nicholas Galitzine and Jared Leto, the film will feature many beloved characters from the franchise. Camila Cabello will play the strong warrior Teela, and Alison Brie will be the sly sorceress Evil-Lyn. Veteran actor Stephen Root will voice Cringer, the scaredy-cat who becomes the powerful Battle Cat, and Idris Elba will play Man-At-Arms, He-Man’s trusted second-in-command. The impressive cast suggests the studio is approaching this reboot with the same respect given to major superhero films.
Longtime fans of Masters of the Universe are particularly excited about the film’s creative direction. It’s being directed by Travis Knight, known for his critically acclaimed work on Bumblebee and the visually stunning Kubo and the Two Strings. Knight is skilled at combining exciting action with heartfelt emotion, making him a great fit for telling the story of Prince Adam’s journey from outcast to hero. Early looks at the film confirm Knight is creating a bright and colorful world that pays homage to the original cartoon. The designs of weapons, armor, and settings intentionally reflect the iconic art style fans have loved for decades.
It’s easy to see why Amazon is heavily investing in the new Masters of the Universe movie. The franchise has always been a rich blend of science fiction and magic, featuring everything from ancient predictions to amazing technology and a wide range of characters. If the film does well, it could launch a large, interconnected cinematic universe comparable to the most popular franchises out there.
Masters of the Universe is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 5, 2026.
