HBO is planning a big 2026 for the Game of Thrones universe. The new series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will premiere in January, and the third season of House of the Dragon will follow later in the year.
The first title is scheduled to be released on January 18th, but fans are still awaiting a release date for the second. However, Matt Smith may have accidentally revealed when to expect it.
Matt Smith, known for his role in Doctor Who and as Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon, was a guest on This Morning on December 12th to talk about his new Sky series, The Death of Bunny Munro.
Smith mentioned that the third season of House of the Dragon is expected to be released in August of next year.

As a huge fan, I’m hearing that a release sometime in August is looking likely, which makes sense based on what HBO told us before. Casey Bloys, the head of content, mentioned last September that the new season would arrive just before the cutoff for Emmy consideration in 2026, so August fits that timeline perfectly.
Because the submission period ends in May, Deadline predicted a release in June 2026. But an August release is also a possibility.
Smith mentioned he believes it will be released in August, but since HBO hasn’t confirmed this, we don’t know for sure if that’s accurate.

Regardless, fans still have plenty on the way from George RR Martin’s fantasy world on screen.
Good news for fans of Westeros! A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is coming back for a second season, and House of the Dragon has been officially renewed for a fourth.
