The Nuremberg Toy Fair offered a sneak peek at toys coming to the New York Toy Fair, and while many eyes were on Masters of the Universe, DC Comics also revealed a new line of figures. This is especially interesting because Mattel recently took over the DC action figure line from McFarlane Toys, and these are the first figures they’ve shown off – though there’s a slight complication.
Mattel recently revealed its first wave of new action figures in a poster shared online by marketing manager Steve Ozer. The lineup includes popular heroes and villains like Superman, Batman (with two different versions!), The Joker, The Flash, Robin, Green Lantern (John Stewart), and Deathstroke. However, these figures are for Mattel’s new line aimed at kids, and fans are still waiting to see what the figures for collectors will look like.
The Nuremberg Toy Fair is happening now, and Mattel just revealed their new DC Core figures! These 6.5-inch figures are designed to be played with by kids, but also appeal to collectors. Collector versions will arrive in January 2027, and we’ll have a sneak peek at those closer to the release date. Keep an eye out for more updates!

The DC Kids Figures Show Big Potential For Collectors

Although we won’t get a clear look at the collector’s edition figures until around 2027, the details revealed in the kids’ line suggest exciting possibilities for the collector’s line. According to Ozer, the 6.5-inch figures are designed for kids but also have features that will appeal to collectors. Early previews show these figures are brightly colored and capture the classic style of the comics.
The appeal for collectors is important because even though these figures are designed more for playing with than displaying, many would still look great alongside DC collectibles. However, they’ll probably cost less than collector-focused figures, meaning they won’t have as much posability.
These figures have unusually flexible knees, but their elbows don’t bend as much, limiting how dramatically they can be posed. Also, they don’t have a joint in their upper body, meaning their torso won’t move – they can only twist at the waist. This will restrict how you can position them for display, but if you prefer more still poses, it probably won’t bother you.
Despite a few minor issues, these figures look promising and have a lot of movement, which is a great start for a collector’s series. It’s also good that the line isn’t limited to just Batman characters from the beginning. If they can add even more points of articulation and interesting accessories, this could be a really successful line, and hopefully we’ll get a preview before December.
