The newest Star Wars animated series is a hit with both critics and fans, earning a remarkably high score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The new Star Wars series, Maul – Shadow Lord, is now available on Disney+. Critics are loving it, giving it a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences also overwhelmingly enjoy the series, with a 96% approval rating.
This is the first time a Star Wars project has ever received a perfect 100% score from critics. Close behind are the animated series Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Visions, both with 98%, followed by the live-action series Andor at 96%.
This makes the series even more popular than the top-rated Star Wars films, like A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.

It’s important to remember that these ratings could change as more reviews are published, but the new series is still off to a remarkably strong start. The series was created by Dave Filoni, a key leader at Lucasfilm.
Sam Witwer returns as the voice of Maul, having previously played him in The Clone Wars. The show focuses on Maul’s efforts to restore his criminal organization and find a new learner on the planet Janix.
Gideon Adlon provides the voice for Devon Izara, a Jedi trying to escape the aftermath of Order 66. Wagner Moura plays Brander Lawson, a police detective, and Richard Ayoade voices Two-Boots, Lawson’s robotic partner.
Sam Witwer recently discussed the version of Darth Maul seen at the start of ‘Shadow Lord,’ explaining to Buzzfeed that this Maul is a very different person than before.
This man is deeply questioning his life and even reconsidering his views on the Jedi. He now sees them as a truly remarkable organization – extraordinary, even. While he doesn’t consider himself their equal, he believes they could have achieved great things if they’d been more decisive and courageous.
That final point reveals the influence of his master, even if Maul isn’t aware of it. Sidious had a strong impact on him, and Maul continues to rely on the methods and training Sidious provided.
You can now watch “Maul – Shadow Lord” on Disney+. A Disney Plus subscription starts at just £5.99 per month.
