Maybe There Is Still Hope for the Final Fantasy 13 Trilogy on PS5, After All

These days, you can play almost all the Final Fantasy games in some form on the PS5.

One major omission is the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, which is still only playable on the PlayStation 3 for PlayStation gamers.

Microsoft has made improved versions of Lightning’s games available on Xbox Series X|S, which is great, but PlayStation 5 players still can’t experience those same updates to these somewhat controversial titles.

Fans are feeling more optimistic that Square Enix might revive these characters after a recent interview with Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

During the conversation, it came up that many game developers consider Final Fantasy 6 to be the most impactful game in the Final Fantasy series.

However, according to a translation by Genki on X (formerly Twitter), Hamaguchi notes that this is starting to shift as more young creators become part of the team.

I’ve noticed new employees mentioning they grew up playing Final Fantasy XIII, which really makes me feel how much time has passed.

Since Final Fantasy 13 came out in 2009, it makes sense that people who grew up in the late 90s feel nostalgic for it. We suspect many of our readers feel the same way!

Although these games aren’t considered top-tier, we’re still hoping Square Enix will release them on other platforms. It’s unfortunate that PlayStation fans are currently limited to playing them on the PS3.

Hopefully this new generation of staff can pitch the idea, and get the publisher to port them over.
