Mayor Of Kingstown Season 4 Episode 7 Recap: The Lines Of Loyalty Are Drawn Ahead Of An All-Out War

In season 4, episode 7 of Mayor of Kingstown, the show reaches a critical point where alliances are tested and characters’ true colors are revealed. Kingstown is facing increased challenges with a new prison warden and a new gang leader both attempting to influence the ongoing power struggles in the area.

Mayor Mike McLusky is already struggling with his brother’s imprisonment, and things are about to get much worse. A major conflict is brewing in the city between the Crips and the Cartel, putting everyone under intense pressure.

CO Breen Takes Out His Anger On One Of The Inmates

Breen was first introduced in season 3 when he interacted with Kyle’s wife while she was in prison. He quickly showed himself to be an abusive person who enjoys controlling and exploiting vulnerable individuals, making his job as a corrections officer particularly frightening.

Even after Mike frightened him enough to leave the women’s prison, Breen found work at Anchor Bay and hasn’t reformed his behavior. When an inmate identifies him, Breen viciously attacks the man, repeatedly slamming his face against the bars until he’s severely injured and collapses.

Naturally, this causes the other guards to become suspicious of Breen, and he starts to become increasingly unstable—a trend that will probably continue in future episodes.

Robert’s Plans To Take Out Mike McLusky Backfire With Ian

Dennis P. Mong Jr. / Paramount +

Honestly, after Robert and Ian took care of that witness, something definitely shifted with Robert. He seemed way more reckless, almost like he felt free to act on any impulse. But it’s weird, because his wife is still emotionally unavailable, and he’s just completely fixated on blaming Mike for all his problems. It’s like he needs a scapegoat, and Mike’s the unlucky guy.

It’s obvious Robert has been consumed by sadness and rage when Ian visits, and he confides in him that he believes the only solution for Kingstown’s problems is to kill Mike.

Ian proves where his allegiance lies by warning Mike about Robert’s scheme, then begins working to eliminate Robert. He gets Robert extremely drunk, drives him home, and positions him in the driver’s seat. Robert then dies from carbon monoxide poisoning, and Ian makes it look like a self-inflicted death.

Callahan Breaks Out Of Anchor Bay

Jeremy Parsons / Paramount+

Callahan was stirring up trouble inside the prison, hoping to manipulate Kyle McLusky and recruit him as an accomplice. But Mike finally achieved his goal and had Callahan transferred back to the general prison population.

During his time there, his followers within the Aryan Brotherhood revered him and created a tight security perimeter around him, even enlisting the help of some guards. Later in the episode, Callahan is given an opportunity to break out of prison when his associates create a distraction in the cafeteria, allowing him to hide inside an empty food cart and escape.

Now on the outside, Callahan could cause irreparable damage to people like Mike and his family.

The Mayor Makes Plans To Capture Frank Moses

Jeremy Parsons / Paramount+

Following the attack on Bunny and the earlier loss of the Crips’ drug supply, Mike persuades Frank that they must retaliate. This feeling is intensified after the Cartel openly attempted to kill Frank while he was at the police station.

Frank dispatches a few of his men to blow up a drug cartel’s supply truck. He’s able to do this thanks to intelligence Mike gathers from within the prison, and the resulting explosion has significant consequences that drive much of the episode’s action.

This situation is causing problems within the Cartel, as they’ve realized someone has compromised their operation. More importantly, Mike is using this to put Frank in danger. He reveals his plan to Bunny: he’s luring Frank into a trap that will free Kyle from prison and also allow Hobb to gain control over the Cartel.

The Anchor Bay Warden Is In A Tough Spot With The Cartel & The Mayor

Dennis P. Mong Jr. / Paramount +

Okay, so Mike and Hobbs are finally starting to really talk to each other, and it’s revealing just how much trouble Hobbs is in. She’s clearly caught between a rock and a hard place with this cartel, and she knows they’re going to turn on her any minute. Mike’s trying to help her navigate this, suggesting she deflect blame, but you can see the pressure she’s under – it’s really affecting her. It’s a tense situation, and the performance really sells that internal struggle.

The situation gets even worse when a young hitman attacks her at home and threatens her daughter, demanding information about the failed prison shipment that Frank’s team destroyed. Hobbs tries to blame Torres, but the hitman wants more than just one person held accountable.

It seems Hobbs is being compelled to work with the Cartel, though she’s not entirely innocent herself. She might be able to escape their control with Mike’s help in getting Frank Moses imprisoned, but until then, she’s in serious trouble in season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown.
