DOOM: The Dark Ages – How Good Is It?

In May, the game DOOM: The Dark Ages was released to high praise on Metacritic with a score of 85, leaving many fans eager to return to the DOOM universe. As per Comicbook’s review, this latest addition to the trilogy, DOOM: The Dark Ages, seems to have been developed first despite being chronologically the first game in the series. It boasts thrilling gunplay that emphasizes parries and defensive weaponry, but it also includes features like a less strategic Glory Kill system, mediocre vehicle sections, and a meandering campaign towards the end, which are somewhat out of place following two well-honed installments. However, even with these shortcomings, id Software has created an experience that holds its ground in a diminishing market of single-player first-person shooters. In other words, while DOOM: The Dark Ages‘s Super Shotgun blast may not be perfectly focused, it still packs quite the punch.

While it’s true that DOOM: The Dark Ages has a few drawbacks, such as a less engaging Glory Kill system and a somewhat lackluster campaign, this game is still well worth your gaming hours. If you own a PS5 or Xbox Series X, you can grab a copy on Amazon right here. PC gamers can enjoy a 13% discount on the standard edition by checking out Fanatical’s offer.
