Vin Diesel posted news regarding a possible Groot sequel focusing on his Marvel Cinematic Universe character, but then removed the post afterwards.
What did Vin Diesel say about his MCU Groot sequel?
On his Instagram, Diesel shared that he finished work on a Groot sequel for Disney.
Vin Diesel shared a message expressing his excitement: “At last, I’ve completed the Groot sequel for Disney! The Arbor King,” he wrote. “You may be aware of other films in progress or upcoming, but there’s something special about continuing the story of that cherished tree giant.
Diesel later edited the caption to remove the reference to Groot.
I’ve been keeping an eye on Diesel’s Instagram posts, and it seems like this isn’t the first time he’s hinted at projects centered around Groot. Back in March, he shared that Disney is keen on their “Planet X” project – which, as a die-hard fan, I can’t help but interpret as a film focusing on Groot’s home planet. Exciting times ahead!
In the 2014 movie Guardians of the Galaxy, Vin Diesel was the first to bring Groot, a tree-like alien character with human-like qualities, to life. Groot’s primary mode of communication is by saying “I am Groot,” in various tones and contexts.
In the following MCU films – Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 – Diesel took on the role of Groot.
In the year 2022, Diesel lent his voice to Baby Groot for the Disney+ series titled “I Am Groot.” This show followed Baby Groot’s journey as he matured, went on adventures, and found himself in various predicaments. The show was structured as a collection of animated episodes spread over two seasons. Season 1 debuted in August 2022, with Season 2 following suit one year later in September 2023.
Diesel also voiced Groot in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
Although Diesel has primarily supplied insights about Groot’s future, Marvel has yet to disclose plans for his appearance in upcoming projects like Avengers: Doomsday.
