Born Again garnered widespread acclaim, and now, it seems I’m set for another solo outing! This time, a Special Presentation is in the works, slated for release on our screens in 2026. Guess what? Filming has already commenced!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s standalone project focused on The Punisher, titled “Punisher Special Presentation,” is directed by Reinaldo Marcus-Green and penned by Marcus-Green and Bernthal. This gritty and intense story follows the life of Frank Castle post the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again.” Recently, @_DaredevilShots on Instagram shared a sneak peek from the set of this production, which began filming in July 2025. An image suggests the timeline for The Punisher’s MCU comeback, as it depicts a concert poster dated Sunday, July 18th, 2027.

In Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) skipped ahead five years to the year 2023, with most of the movie unfolding in that timeframe. Marvel Studios has tried to clarify the timeline through a published book and more recent MCU projects on Disney+, but there’s been some uncertainty about where certain projects are set. However, for the upcoming Punisher special, it’s clear that it will take place in 2027 since July 18th only falls on a Sunday in that year. It seems Marvel production designers did their homework efficiently to establish this date.
In this plot schedule for the Special Presentation, the sequence of events appears logical since most of “Daredevil: Born Again” season 1 unfolded around early 2027, just after New Year’s. The time gap between the end of season 1 and the start of season 2 in March 2026 for “Daredevil: Born Again” isn’t specified yet, but considering the timeline of the Punisher’s Special Presentation, it seems that only a few months will have elapsed since Frank Castle found himself in Mayor Wilson Fisk’s grim and oppressive New York City. It is anticipated that Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle in “Daredevil: Born Again” season 2.
Born Again” season 2 in 2026 and the Punisher’s special presentation around mid-2027 are signs that Marvel Studios is gradually aligning its timeline with our real-world timeframe in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The five-year leap in “Endgame” placed the MCU ahead of our current time, but projects set for 2026 being based on 2027 suggests that we might be back on par by the time “Avengers: Secret Wars” premieres and concludes the MCU’s Multiverse Saga in an unspecified year after “Daredevil: Born Again” season 2. The release date for the Punisher’s special presentation is yet to be announced, but it’s expected to stream on Disney+ following “Daredevil: Born Again” season 2.
