In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Frank Castle (the Punisher) is now an official member. Right off the bat, they’re finding ways to weave him into the storyline. Initially, the anti-hero was featured in the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again“, aiding the main character, Daredevil, in tackling corrupt cops who unauthorizedly used his symbol. After teaming up with Daredevil, Castle ends up in a cell owned by Wilson Fisk, but he doesn’t stay there for long. He cleverly manipulates a cop into releasing him. Instead of reuniting with his friend who loves red, Castle has other significant challenges ahead in the coming days.
In the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Jon Bernthal is set to portray Castle, a role that’s rumored to present some challenges due to the presence of a rampaging Savage Hulk in New York City. However, before Castle can engage with Bruce Banner’s alter ego, he must complete his initial solo project which has been underway since 2019. Marvel Studios is planning a special for The Punisher that will shed light on where the character ends up following his escape from Kingpin’s forces.
At present, the production for this unique series is underway in New York City, a city not unfamiliar with being a backdrop for filming, as Born Again too chose the same location. Although it’s unlikely that these two projects will share shooting locations, there’s a strong possibility that The Punisher might pay a visit to a significant locale from the Defenders Saga. Fresh set photos suggest that the production is capturing scenes at a place of great significance to Iron Fist.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that this week, the cameras will start rolling on ‘THE PUNISHER’ special right here in the heart of New York City. We’re operating under the temporary title “Jolly Roger” for now.
The action kicks off on Thursday, July 17 and continues through Friday, July 18. The filming locations will be around Greenwood Cemetery, close to McDonald Avenue. Can’t wait to see what unfolds!

The most moving scene featuring the Punisher in Daredevil unfolds within a cemetery, where he shares his tragic backstory with Matt Murdock. This poignant moment serves to soften the anti-hero’s image before his standalone series. Although Greenwood Cemetery is not central to the upcoming Punisher special, it holds significance as it is also the resting place of Danny Rand’s parents, a fact revealed in Iron Fist. Danny pays respects at their graves, finding solace amidst the reminder of his own presumed demise following a tragic plane crash. (Source: The Direct)
Finn Jones’ hero hasn’t been linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) through rumors, and there are clear reasons why. His solo series was poorly received upon its release, and his character didn’t improve when he appeared in The Defenders. However, if Iron Fist (Rand) is going to reappear in the MCU, the Punisher special could be an ideal opportunity for it to happen.
Daredevil: Born Again Isn’t the Only MCU Project That Can Have Defenders Connections
In the series “Born Again,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings all its Netflix-related storylines to the forefront, recalling the events of Daredevil that were previously overlooked in Murdock and Fisk’s previous appearances. Characters like Karen Page and Foggy Nelson return (at least for one episode), and Bullseye continues to pose a threat to his arch-nemesis. However, when Frank Castle is involved, the stakes get even higher. Marvel Studios is delving back into the past in Season 2 by incorporating Jessica Jones into the narrative. She’s joining forces with Daredevil to combat Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force, but the conflict may expand across multiple battlefronts.
After Castle has dealt with his current problems, he might seek revenge against his adversaries. The most effective strategy could be tracking down the remaining members of the AVTF and exacting retribution from them. Interestingly, New York City is filled with vigilantes, so it’s possible that Castle could encounter another hero such as Daredevil and form a temporary alliance. If Spider-Man can overlook Punisher’s questionable actions, Iron Fist may also be able to do the same.
