In the upcoming month, a new Iron Fist will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, this character has roots deeply embedded in Earth-616’s past. A brief appearance of Iron Fist was spotted in the trailer for the animated series, “Eyes of Wakanda”. This series delves into the past, focusing on Wakandan spies and warriors who are sent worldwide to safeguard their secret nation’s interests.
The mantle of Iron Fist has been a familial responsibility similar to that of the Black Panther. Given this connection, it’s plausible for characters like the Iron Fist to cross paths in Wakanda’s history. This may not be a return for Danny Rand (Finn Jones), but it indicates that Marvel continues to acknowledge the Guardian of K’un-Lun.
The four-episode miniseries titled “Eyes of Wakanda” debuts on Disney+ on August 1st. It chronicles Wakandan agents dispatched across different time periods to safeguard their nation’s secrets and secure vibranium from potential threats. This historical backdrop provides ample opportunities for easter eggs and connections to other elements in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, Iron Fist is the most conspicuous link we’ve noticed.
As a devoted fan, I’ve watched how the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has brought Iron Fist to life in a Netflix series, not forgetting the thrilling crossover with the Defenders. In these shows, Finn Jones portrays Danny Rand, the renowned character who miraculously survived a family plane crash in the Himalayas. Taken in by the inhabitants of K’un-Lun, a mystical city hidden between dimensions that only intermittently opens to our world, Danny learns martial arts from them and eventually assumes the role of Iron Fist – the chosen protector of K’un-Lun against earthly threats.
It’s logical to assume that these two clandestine groups would harbor mutual distrust towards each other, however, details about their meeting within ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ remain scarce. What we do know is that fans are delighted by the appearance of Iron Fist donning his iconic mask, an accessory that was minimally used in the MCU series. Naturally, many are anticipating that this cameo will lead to more appearances of Iron Fist within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.
There’s a lot of anticipation brewing in different parts of the MCU too. The upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again” has reintroduced some characters from the Defenders era, with Jessica Jones (played by Krysten Ritter) set to appear in Season 2. Fans are eagerly waiting for Danny Rand and Luke Cage to return to the scene soon as well, and this brief animated appearance certainly fuels that expectation.
On August 1st, the eyes of Wakanda will debut on Disney+. If you’re curious, Iron Fist and the Defenders are already available for streaming there too.
