It’s been four years since he last appeared in a Marvel movie, but one of the original Avengers may have hinted at a comeback in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The first trailer for the film, directed by the Russo brothers, is out now, building excitement for the heroes’ return next year. While many fan favorites haven’t been officially confirmed for the movie yet, there’s speculation about whether characters like Spider-Man, the Hulk, and the Scarlet Witch will join the fight.
While it hasn’t been officially announced, fans are wondering if Hawkeye (Clint Barton) will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jeremy Renner recently shared a teaser for the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, on X, sparking speculation about his character’s potential appearance. It’s been four years since Clint Barton last appeared in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, and many are hopeful to see him back in action when Doomsday arrives in December 2026, though Marvel has not yet confirmed his involvement.

Where is Hawkeye & How Can He Return to the MCU?

Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, and Robert Downey Jr. is set to play the villain, Doctor Doom, in the upcoming film. The teaser trailer showed that Chris Evans will also return as Steve Rogers. While some original Avengers are still unconfirmed, it’s believed Scarlett Johansson won’t be back as Black Widow. Mark Ruffalo’s recent appearance as the Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day hints at a possible return in Doomsday, and fans are hoping to see Clint Barton (Hawkeye) back in action as well.
Jeremy Renner last appeared as Hawkeye in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, where he worked with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) to fight the Tracksuit Mafia and Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). The series finale suggested Clint Barton was passing the torch to Bishop, but fans have wondered if the original Hawkeye would return, especially after Renner’s serious snowplow accident in 2023. Recent posts on Renner’s social media hint that he will be involved in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars films, making his return to the MCU seem very probable.
Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye, appears to be enjoying retirement on his farm in Iowa, but he’s the kind of hero who could be called back into action easily. Since he first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Thor in 2011, he’s become a key figure, and there are still many unanswered questions about his life. Future projects like Doomsday and Secret Wars could reveal how he became such an incredible archer, the true identity of his wife, Laura Barton (played by Linda Cardellini), and whether his children will inherit his heroic path. Fans would love to see him team up with the Avengers again in Doomsday, and his recent statements suggest that might just happen.
