MCU Star Shuts Down a Major Daredevil: Born Again Theory (& It’ll Make You Sad)

Well, folks, it looks like one of the actors we all thought would be back for Daredevil: Born Again is officially out. I was really excited about the prospect of seeing Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) clash again in the second season, which is currently slated to arrive on Disney+ in 2026 – it promises to be a huge battle for New York City! While Daredevil is gearing up for a fight and building quite the team, it seems one of his most trusted allies won’t be joining him this time around. It’s a bit of a blow, but I’m still optimistic about Born Again season 2 – the potential for an epic showdown is still very much there. Stay tuned for more updates as we get them!

“I’m sorry to have to share this,” Elden Henson said at LA Comic-Con when asked if Franklin “Foggy” Nelson would be back for season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. “But it’s not going to happen.” Henson played Foggy Nelson, Matt Murdock’s law partner and best friend, throughout the entire Daredevil series on Netflix, and he appeared again in the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again in 2025. While many fans speculated about how Foggy might return in the new season, Henson’s recent comments indicate that won’t be the case.

What is Foggy Nelson’s Fate in the MCU?

Foggy Nelson played a vital role in Matt Murdock’s story throughout the Defenders Saga, so fans were very happy when he and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) were confirmed to return for Daredevil: Born Again. His death in the first episode, “Heaven’s Half Hour,” came as a big surprise and was a truly moving scene, with many viewers wishing he’d had more screen time in the new series. He was killed by Benjamin Poindexter’s Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) under the direction of Vanessa Fisk (Ayelet Zurer), because Foggy was beginning to expose the Fisks’ schemes for Red Hook.

After Foggy’s death, fans started speculating about potential ways he could return, despite the fact that his death seemed definitive. While Foggy has survived death multiple times in Marvel Comics, setting a precedent for a comeback in the live-action MCU, recent comments from Elden Henson seem to indicate this won’t happen. This is a change from what executive producer Sana Amanat told Entertainment Weekly in March 2025, when she stated, “He and Deborah are coming back for season 2 in different ways.” Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming at Marvel Studios, also supported those statements.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with him once more,” Winderbaum shared with Entertainment Weekly right after the character Foggy Nelson died in Daredevil: Born Again season 1. “I can’t picture a Daredevil season happening without him in some capacity.” Many fans agree, feeling that Matt Murdock can’t realistically continue as Daredevil without the help and stability provided by his closest friend and advisor. Henson’s statements might be misleading, and Foggy Nelson could return in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
