Exciting new fan art is hinting at a potential new team of Defenders in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ready to safeguard New York City, particularly in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again and other projects. While the original Defenders team from the Netflix series – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist – are now officially part of the MCU, this new line-up could include different heroes. The Netflix team, brought to life by Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones, first united in live-action through that series.
Jessica Jones is set to return in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, where Matt Murdock will build a team to fight against Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and a task force opposing vigilantes. Rumors suggest Luke Cage and Danny Rand might also appear, and fan art shared on Instagram by @arifinity_ imagines a team-up of the original Defenders with other Marvel heroes like Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Hawkeye (Hailee Steinfeld), the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), and Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac). This potential lineup has excited fans due to its impressive combination of characters.
Who Could Be in Daredevil’s New Defenders Team in Born Again Season 2?

At the end of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Karen Page persuaded Matt Murdock to change tactics against Kingpin, who was trying to impose martial law and ban vigilantes in New York City. Daredevil then began assembling a team of heroes to fight Mayor Fisk, strongly suggesting the return of the Defenders. With Jessica Jones set to reappear, she’s a likely recruit, and she won’t be the only one joining the fight.
Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, will be back in season 2 of Born Again, and his journey towards becoming a true hero could lead into a future special presentation and a role in the 2026 film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Jack Duquesne’s character, the Swordsman (played by Tony Dalton), and Angela del Toro (Camila Rodriguez) are also expected to return, with Angela potentially becoming the White Tiger after her uncle’s death. While Luke Cage and Danny Rand (Iron Fist) haven’t been officially confirmed for season 2, there’s been ongoing speculation about their return after the cancellation of the Marvel Netflix series.
Besides Daredevil, several other heroes are active in New York City within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and could potentially join his Defenders team. Moon Knight, a significant figure in Marvel comics, might appear if Oscar Isaac reprises his role for Disney. While Kate Bishop is currently Hawkeye in New York, she’s more likely to join the Young Avengers. However, Spider-Man is arguably the most well-known New York hero. Given that Peter Parker and Matt Murdock already teamed up in No Way Home, fans would love to see them unite again, perhaps to fight Kingpin.
