As an analyst, I’ve been following Microsoft’s developments with Copilot, and they’ve just introduced a really interesting new visual element called Mico. Essentially, Mico is an animated avatar designed to make voice interactions with Copilot more engaging. It’s not a traditional character – think of it as a fluid, abstract shape that moves around the screen and actually *reacts* to what you’re saying with different expressions and movements. It’s a pretty clever way to add personality to the AI experience.
Microsoft has introduced Mico, a visual companion designed to work with Copilot. It’s completely optional – you don’t have to use it if you prefer – and is meant to make voice interactions feel more natural and engaging. Mico responds to your voice, changes colors based on the conversation, and uses animations and expressions to provide a friendly experience.
This new Copilot avatar, called Mico, is designed to make conversations with the AI feel more human and less awkward. Microsoft believes Mico will encourage more people to use their voice when interacting with Copilot. As a fun surprise, if you repeatedly tap the Mico avatar, it transforms into the classic Clippy!

Along with a fresh new look, Microsoft is making Copilot more interactive and user-friendly with several new features. One of these is a group chat option, allowing up to 32 people to chat with Copilot simultaneously.
Copilot Groups lets you easily collaborate with others using Copilot. It’s based on the popular GroupMe feature, and allows you to invite people to join your Copilot chat using a link. Once invited, everyone can interact with Copilot simultaneously.
Copilot helps teams stay organized by automatically summarizing conversations, suggesting solutions, counting votes, and dividing up work, according to Microsoft. Just invite your friends, classmates, or teammates to get started.

Microsoft is introducing a new feature called “real talk” for Copilot. This will allow Copilot to question users and challenge their ideas – something no other AI assistant currently does.
This update helps Copilot provide truthful and reliable responses, especially when dealing with private or sensitive subjects. Unlike some other AI assistants that tend to agree with whatever a user says about personal topics, Copilot is being improved to offer more honest and objective feedback.
Microsoft is introducing Copilot Health, a new feature that provides reliable health information from sources like Harvard Health when responding to your questions. It can also assist you in finding suitable doctors to address your health concerns efficiently.
These new Copilot features are launching today in the U.S. as part of the Fall Release, and will become available in other countries over the next few weeks.
Microsoft is showcasing updates to Copilot, including a feature called Copilot Connections. This feature is now available and allows Copilot to access your emails and calendar events from Google or OneDrive, letting you easily ask it about your schedule and other important details.
The company recently unveiled significant improvements to Copilot on Windows, including the new “Hey Copilot” voice activation and Copilot Actions. These features let Copilot handle tasks for you simply by asking. Microsoft Edge is also getting Copilot Actions and a new feature called Copilot Journeys.
When will Mico be available?
Mico is now available in the United States. It will be released in other countries, including the UK and Canada, over the next few weeks.
Is Mico an optional thing?
Mico is a feature you need to turn on before you can see it. It’s not visible unless you specifically enable the avatar option.
