Jeff Bezosand Lauren Sánchez Bezos have prime billing for the 2026 Met Gala.
I was so excited to read that Jeff and MacKenzie Scott are generously funding the Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition at the Met! Vogue just announced it, and it sounds like they’re the main donors. Apparently, they’ve also helped choose the theme for the whole event, which I can’t wait to find out more about!
The Met Gala is the Costume Institute’s biggest fundraiser, providing the main source of money for its programs. The 2024 gala will be held on May 4th, just before the exhibit it supports opens on May 10th.
The first Monday in May is usually sponsored by major fashion brands—Louis Vuitton led the 2025 event—but the Met Gala, overseen by Anna Wintour, has also received support from wealthy individuals. For example, in 2018, Stephen and Christine Schwarzman were significant donors.
Jeff and Lauren, who got married in June, made their first appearance as a couple at the Met Gala in 2024. Jeff had previously attended the event in 2012 with his ex-wife, Mackenzie Bezos.
It’s still unclear exactly how the 2026 Met Gala will reflect the couple’s new position, but the exhibit’s curator, Andrew Bolton, has offered some insight into what to expect.
This is a really important step for the Costume Institute,” he said to Vogue. “It will greatly change things for our department, and I believe it will also have a big impact on the world of fashion as a whole—the fact that a major art museum like The Met is putting fashion in the spotlight.

The exhibit and gala will center around the idea of clothing as essential to how we present ourselves, because fashion is the common thread linking all the museum’s collections and displays.
Andrew explained that a central idea runs through the entire museum, and was actually the inspiration for the exhibition: the way people dress is the main focus of everything you see in every room.
As he noted, “Even the nude is never naked. It’s always inscribed with cultural values and ideas.”
Get ready for next year’s Met Gala by revisiting the stunning looks from this year’s event, where stars truly dressed their best.
