Meta introduced its latest large language model, named Llama-3, as the most advanced and finest open-source AI model in existence today at a recent event.
The company’s announcements about the release of Llama-3 and a new “Meta AI” portal have generated excitement in the tech community, implying that Facebook may now challenge Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic as leading players in the industry.
In a recent Meta blog post, there was no hesitation or dispute expressed regarding the place of the company’s Llama collection of Language Models within the international hierarchy of AI models.
“This next generation of Llama demonstrates state-of-the-art performance on a wide range of industry benchmarks and offers new capabilities, including improved reasoning. We believe these are the best open source models of their class, period.”
Expert commentators and analysts have been eagerly anticipating the launch of Llama-3 for some time now. Preview editions of this model have reportedly shown superior reasoning abilities and faster processing speeds than its competitors GPT from OpenAI and Gemini from Google.
The market for large language models keeps growing each year, with major updates to top models coming out regularly. OpenAI, the current market frontrunner, is reportedly close to releasing a new model – possibly named GPT-5 based on their naming pattern.
Based on a Business Insider article, it’s been claimed that the upcoming GPT model will significantly outperform its previous versions. However, this allegation has not been confirmed yet.
According to a recent article by CryptoMoon, the race to dominate the Large Language Model (LLM) market is intensifying. Microsoft and OpenAI have announced plans to invest $100 billion each to construct new AI super data centers. Meanwhile, Google DeepMind’s CEO, Demis Hassabis, has hinted that Google will surpass this investment amount.
As the expenses keep climbing, the potential benefits could become even more substantial. According to Google and Microsoft, this is about creating the world’s initial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). An AGI, in theory, would be able to carry out any task a human can do, given the necessary resources.
