The latest installment in the horror series centers around Gemma, a mother played by Amelia Eve, and her daughter, played by Island Austin. As shown in the trailer released by Sony Pictures, Gemma has raised her daughter alone since birth, and they’ve recently moved back to Gemma’s childhood home. After a terrifying experience, Gemma realizes she has the ability to enter the ‘Further,’ the series’ supernatural dimension. Luckily, a friend helps her connect with the spirit of Elise (from previous films), who mentors Gemma in controlling her new power. What makes Gemma unique – even compared to the talented Elise – is her ability to permanently pull spirits from the Further into the real world.

The second season of The Terminal List is coming soon! Filming finished in March 2026 after shooting in South Africa, Toronto, and Morocco. If post-production takes about as long as it did for Season 1, we can expect it to be released sometime between September and October 2026. This means it will be released around the same time as Season 4 of Reacher, making Prime Video’s lineup of action shows even more crowded.

Besides those examples, several other well-known dark anime, like Berserk, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Elfen Lied, and Higurashi: When They Cry, have been incredibly influential. However, they aren’t perfect and sometimes take time to fully realize their potential. While constantly focusing on grim themes can be challenging, many anime successfully explore this darker side of storytelling.
