The game “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” features collaborations, and one of these exclusive to the Xbox Series X|S version is a mode where players battle waves of Bombermen, representing another popular Konami series for Microsoft’s console. Meanwhile, the PS5 and PC versions include a mini-game titled “Snake vs. Monkey,” which was initially seen in the PS2 version of “Snake Eater.” This lighthearted mode involves Snake capturing simians from Ape Escape. This game feature was present in the original release, but the version in “Delta” includes an additional crossover with a PlayStation franchise that Konami has not yet revealed publicly.
Astro Bot Appears in Metal Gear Solid Delta
In this rephrased version, the title character from the critically acclaimed 2024 platformer, Astro Bot, is found as a hidden character within each stage of Snake vs. Monkey. Sometimes the little robot appears disguised as an ape, while other times it is in its regular robot form. Surprisingly, some monkeys are depicted interacting with the robot, despite the monkey positions remaining almost identical to the original. Capturing the monkeys triggers one of several humorous animations, while capturing Astro Bot initiates an animation reminiscent of the one in Astro Bot when players pick up an Astro Bot. Upon capture, Astro Bot is placed into a special white and blue cardboard box, and PlayStation button symbols float across the screen.
As a keen gamer, I’ve stumbled upon an intriguing tidbit about my favorite game, Delta. It seems that for each Astro Bot collected in every level (they aren’t exactly hidden, so it’s more like a fun challenge rather than a hard-to-find treasure hunt), there’s a secret surprise waiting for us!
Now, I was envisioning something cool related to Astro Bot – perhaps a slick blue and white camo uniform or even an Astro Bot mask. But it turns out that completing this challenge unlocks a golden banana hat for Snake. That’s right, a golden banana hat!
Interestingly, there’s also a regular version of the same hat up for grabs once you’ve ensnared every monkey in the game. So if you fancy yourself as a hat connoisseur like me, be sure to collect those Astro Bots and monkeys to expand your virtual headwear collection!
It’s clear that this isn’t the first time these two franchises have teamed up. In the 2024 game called Astro Bot, there were several characters from Metal Gear. Players could save Astro Bots dressed as Psycho Mantis, Solid Snake, Gray Fox, Naked Snake, and Raiden, all of whom represented different parts of the Metal Gear series. Just like any other Bot, players could engage with each one in the hub and watch their humorous animations, which usually contained jokes or subtle references to the characters.
In earlier versions of the games “Snake Eater” and “Subsistence”, there was a mini-game called Snake vs. Monkey, but this wasn’t present in later releases such as the PS2 version of the “Essential Collection”, the 3DS remake, the “HD Collection”, or “Master Collection Vol. 1”. The reason for its absence is that it was initially featured on one of the extra discs included with “Subsistence”. Since much of this additional content didn’t make it into subsequent releases, it’s no surprise to find Snake vs. Monkey missing in later versions. Additionally, given that the franchise belongs to Sony, it may have been difficult for this mini-game to appear on other gaming platforms.
