Metal Gear Solid Delta Producer Is Hoping to Remake MGS4, Rescuing It from PS3 Jail

Konami recently released Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which is a rebuilt version of the beloved stealth action game.

Even though there were a few technical issues, the project was a big hit with fans, and they’re already excited to see what happens next in the series.

We’ve heard that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is coming, bringing together several older versions of the games. But fans are also wondering if we’ll see completely new games in the series, reimagined for today’s consoles.

It seems Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots might be a possibility.

Producer Noriaki Okamura recently mentioned in an interview with Real Sound that he’d be open to revisiting the PlayStation 3 game. (Quotes translated from Japanese by Metal Gear Network.)

When asked about future plans, Okamura explained that the Delta team is still deciding what their next project will be.

I was really interested to hear Okamura talk about the future of Metal Gear! He said they’re thinking about whether to remake existing games or create something totally fresh. He explained that because the series has such a long history – going all the way back to pixel art and now looking like a movie – they know each game needs its own special approach. Apparently, what they did with Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater won’t be a template for everything else. They really want to figure out what will work best for each title on a case-by-case basis, which is great to hear!

He goes on to say he’s personally hoping for a remake of MGS4: Guns of the Patriots.

The gaming hardware from that time period had limitations that forced developers to come up with really creative solutions to make 3D graphics work well, and Metal Gear Solid 4 ended up with some very complex code as a result. Porting it to modern systems would be incredibly difficult, I believe.

For fans of the game, which is still only available on PS3, it’s an encouraging sign.

Because of the complex design of the PlayStation 3, it’s really hard to adapt games from that system to newer consoles or PCs. Remaking the game from scratch might be the most practical way to bring it to modern platforms.

Many fans are hoping to see Metal Gear Solid 4 included in the second Master Collection, but transferring a game originally made for the PlayStation 3 to other consoles is technically challenging.

What are your thoughts? Would you be interested in a remake of Metal Gear Solid 4, similar in style to the Delta versions of other games? Let us know in the comments!
