As a long-time fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, I can’t help but feel a pang of anticipation every time a new update about MGS Delta rolls in. It’s been a while since we last saw Solid Snake, and I’ve grown quite accustomed to his stealthy presence in my gaming life.
As a dedicated gamer, I must admit that just a short while ago, it seemed like the Metal Gear franchise was on its last legs. But now, here we are with the series making a comeback, and not just any comeback – they’re remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which many of us consider its finest hour! And let me tell you, this remake is shaping up to be something truly special.
There’s no question that the company’s recent history certainly warrants a healthy amount of skepticism, of which there’s certainly been no shortage in the cases of both Metal Gear Solid Delta and the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake. Meanwhile, even in terms of what has been shown and said, some aspects of the MGS3 remake haven’t appealed to everyone- like how little its deviating from the original, to the extent of still having areas separated by loading screens, rather than the entire game being a single, seamless experience.
Overall, impressions on Delta have been overwhelmingly positive, including from recent hands-on previews. The fundamental design and mechanics of Metal Gear Solid 3, which remain exceptional today, make the idea of a remake that improves controls and adds user-friendly features a highly appealing prospect. Furthermore, the visual and technical improvements demonstrated by the game have consistently been impressive. In terms of the storyline, however, Delta is making minimal changes – a decision we wholeheartedly support for a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, given Hideo Kojima’s absence from the project. Konami has yet to regain our trust to the point where we feel comfortable with them altering the narrative of such a beloved Metal Gear game.
Is it known when exactly Metal Gear Solid Delta will be released? It’s puzzling as to why Konami hasn’t disclosed its launch date (or even a timeframe) yet, especially given that the game appears to be well into development. We’ve been frequently catching glimpses of it, and each time we do, the game looks exceptionally refined and polished. Some had hoped for more details about the release during Tokyo Game Show, perhaps even a release window. At the very least, wouldn’t we expect to get a timeframe by now?
Regrettably, Konami hasn’t revealed the expected release date or timeframe for MGS Delta. However, we were fortunate enough to receive ample amounts of MGS Delta at TGS. This included a new episode of Production Hotline, an abundance of fresh gameplay footage, and a brand-new trailer. These updates have kept anticipation high. Unfortunately, a release date or announcement hasn’t been made, which has left some fans feeling a little disappointed (or worried).
It’s quite clear that the understanding of its release year for Metal Gear Solid Delta isn’t complicated. Earlier in the year, PlayStation accidentally revealed a 2024 release date, though Konami hasn’t officially confirmed or hinted at this yet. However, considering how close to launch the game appears each time it’s showcased and how often it has been displayed, many fans have grown more confident that it might actually come out this year. If that were true, Tokyo Game Show would have been the perfect platform to announce the release date.
Well, as a fellow gaming enthusiast, let me remind you that, just like us, Metal Gear Solid Delta doesn’t seem to have a set release date yet. Now, I know this might be a bummer for some, but Konami has been pretty open about the game’s development, showing us glimpses and keeping us updated. Compare that to the many big titles like Splinter Cell remake, Marvel’s Wolverine, or The Elder Scrolls 6, which have barely shown a peek since their announcements years ago.
Considering the recent developments and taking into account that Silent Hill 2 is slated for October this year, it seems reasonable to assume that Konami might be planning a release for Metal Gear Solid Delta in 2025, given their strategy of spacing out major releases. This leads us to wonder when exactly Konami will officially disclose the release date for the MGS3 remake.
Perhaps we could draw some insights from the upcoming remake of “Silent Hill 2”, which was announced towards the end of 2022 and is said to be near completion by Konami and developer Bloober Team. Although no specific release date was provided initially, many believed it wouldn’t take long to hit the market. However, it wasn’t until May this year that Konami officially set a launch date for the game. Since “Silent Hill 2” is one of Konami’s first major AAA releases in years, it’s likely they will adopt similar release strategies with other AAA titles.
Indeed, it appears that we’ve had significantly more previews of Delta compared to Silent Hill 2 after its unveiling, as the latter has been largely absent for extended durations following its initial announcement. However, it seems Konami might prefer not to disclose launch dates too far in advance for their games. Much like with Silent Hill 2, whose release date was announced approximately five months before its launch, we wouldn’t be shocked if a similar timeline were to occur with Metal Gear.
As a gamer, I’m guessing that since Geoff Keighley, the producer and host of The Game Awards, hasn’t had the best relationship with Konami in the past, we might not hear any big announcements from them at this December event. Instead, it seems likely that the release date for Metal Gear will be unveiled either during a PlayStation or Xbox event, or perhaps even through a special Production Hotline episode. With Xbox planning its third annual Developer Direct presentation in January, maybe that’s where we finally get some news about Delta? Of course, there’s always the possibility that Konami could hold off on announcing the release date if the game isn’t due out until later in the year.
Regardless, it’s comforting that Konami consistently reveals more of the upcoming game “Metal Gear Solid Delta”, and each time it appears, it seems to be shaping up quite nicely. Admittedly, knowing an exact release date would have been ideal, especially considering the recent influx of new footage from TGS. But for the moment, we’ll direct our anticipation towards “Silent Hill 2” instead. Indeed, that’s pretty intriguing news as well, isn’t it?
