It’s no secret that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which came out earlier this year, includes a lot more talking from characters than previous games in the series. Now, a player has found even more dialogue hidden within the game’s audio files. This unused dialogue was apparently cut before the game was fully released, but somehow remained in the final version. You can see a video of the discovered lines below.
The removed dialogue isn’t important to the story; it’s mostly just jokes and silly conversations about things like food and how strong a robot can be. It seems these lines were cut from Metroid Prime 4: Beyond because they didn’t match the game’s serious atmosphere. According to VideoGamesChronicle, the total amount of cut dialogue is about 30 minutes long.
The Metroid Prime games are generally loved by players and critics because they emphasize exploring detailed worlds and create a feeling of loneliness as you play as Samus Aran and piece together the story. Although the first three Metroid Prime games received high praise, the newest installment has the lowest overall score on Metacritic compared to the others in the series.
In our review of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (you can read it here), we also pointed out that the constant talking of non-player characters (NPCs) was a significant downside. While we understood the purpose of helping these characters with puzzles, the inability to turn off their chatter was frustrating. This constant dialogue actually detracted from the game’s intended atmosphere of isolation and overall mood.
Creating Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was a massive effort, judging by the extensive list of studios involved. When the game launched earlier this month, the credits revealed that 21 different studios contributed, including the main developer, Retro Studios. Some of the other teams credited are Virtuos, Territory Studio, Waterproof, Red Hot CG, and AMC Studios.
It’s not surprising that so many different studios have contributed to the game. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was originally announced way back in 2017, and at that time, Bandai Namco Studios in Japan and Singapore was listed as the developer, rather than the series’ usual developer, Retro Studios. Since then, the project was restarted with Retro Studios taking the lead in 2019.
In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, players join Samus Aran on a new mission to the planet Viewros. She’ll face dangerous enemies, including another bounty hunter named Sylux, and fight to survive. The game is played from a first-person perspective, blending action, jumping challenges, puzzles, and exploration. Like previous Metroid Prime games, players can scan their surroundings to uncover more of the story as they play. It’s available on both Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2.
