It seems that Nintendo may be nearing the announcement of a definite release date for the eagerly awaited Metroid Prime 4. Although no fresh updates about the game have been shared as of now, the Nintendo eShop listing for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond now features an ESRB rating for the US. For clarity, ESRB ratings often signal that a game is approaching its launch soon.
The rating board ESRB has classified Metroid Prime 4: Beyond as suitable for players aged 13 and up due to its inclusion of animated violence and gore. Additionally, the game will include in-app purchases, although the specifics of these transactions are yet to be disclosed, potentially suggesting future expansion packs may be available directly within the game.
Last July, it emerged that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond received a rating from the Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) in South Korea. In South Korea, the game is classified as suitable for those aged 12 and above. At the time, it was speculated that Nintendo might be preparing for a Direct presentation, which could potentially mean an earlier release date for the game.
Given that Nintendo didn’t reveal any news about new projects during Gamescom 2025, it’s likely that the release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be announced soon, possibly during a Direct presentation later this month, or at the Tokyo Games Show in September.
In June, there was a bit of a stir caused by some advertising displays for the game “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” at London’s Oxford Circus tube station on the underground. The billboards suggested that the game was already released, which was not the case. These advertisements were accompanied by others promoting the Nintendo Switch 2 and its GameChat feature. Nintendo later clarified that these ads contained inaccuracies.
The company stated, “We want to clarify that the message ‘Now Available’ on our ad is mistaken. The games Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are not currently out in the market and are planned for release only in 2025.
Originally revealed in 2017, during the release of the initial Nintendo Switch, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has faced challenges in its development. However, it appears that these issues have been resolved as Retro Studios recently brought on board experienced professionals from significant games such as Halo, God of War, and Mirror’s Edge to assist in finishing up Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
In the upcoming game, players will again assume the character of Samus Aran, our beloved franchise heroine. This time, she infiltrates a Galactic Confederation Research Facility, a move that happens to coincide with an assault by Space Pirates on the same facility. The game promises gameplay as innovative as the original Metroid Prime series, offering a mix of first-person action, extensive exploration, intricate puzzle solving, and immersive environmental storytelling.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be coming to Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2.
