It appears we may be close to hearing a release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, given the latest update about the game. Metroid Prime 4 has been eagerly awaited by fans since it was first unveiled in 2017, alongside the Nintendo Switch. However, development on the project faced challenges, and it wasn’t until 2024 that we saw a proper trailer for the game. Interestingly, Metroid Prime 4 is now slated to launch on the yet-to-be-released Nintendo Switch 2.
Some initially anticipated that Metroid Prime 4 would debut as a launch title on the Nintendo Switch 2, possibly even being part of its initial lineup. However, it’s been confirmed that the game will instead make its appearance in the console’s first year on the market. This means Metroid Prime 4 is slated for release before the end of 2025 and could very well be Nintendo’s major holiday title, enticing more individuals to purchase Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Excitement around the game has been growing in recent months, particularly after a summer advertising blunder where an ad claimed Metroid Prime 4 was “out now.” While this turned out to be an error, it did hint at the game’s imminent arrival.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Gets an ESRB Rating

In other news, the most recent update for “Metroid Prime 4” has earned it an ESRB rating. This highly-anticipated new Nintendo game will carry a T for Teen rating, consistent with past titles in the series. On its official website, Nintendo has updated the rating for “Metroid Prime 4”. The game is rated T for Teen due to “Animated Blood and Violence”, a feature typically found in games of this type.

Generally speaking, an ESRB rating is assigned once a game has been fully developed and all its content is finalized. This is because the ratings board needs to understand the most explicit content within the game for an accurate assessment, which may not be known until every aspect of the game is set in stone. To make this determination, the ESRB typically reviews footage and descriptions of the game’s content.
It’s likely that Metroid Prime 4 is on the verge of revealing its 2025 release date, as it approaches the final stages. Whether or not Nintendo will host another Direct presentation soon is uncertain, considering they recently held one this summer. However, it’s possible that Nintendo may simply announce the release date via a regular trailer and press release. For now, we can only wait for further updates.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will release on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
