Though there are still several months remaining, it seems that 2025 is nearing its end. Nintendo has begun to outline their plans for the remainder of the year, with “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” set to release on October 16th, and “Kirby: Air Riders” slated for November 20th. These games are expected to provide a strong finish for Nintendo this year, but they aren’t the only notable exclusives scheduled for 2025. The highly anticipated “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” is also on the horizon, though it currently lacks a release date as the year draws to a close.
The highly anticipated game, titled “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond,” originally announced in 2017 during Nintendo’s early days with the Switch console, will be developed by Retro Studios, who initially were not a part of it. However, due to creative differences, the original development team was replaced with Retro Studios two years later, with many believing they were affiliated with Bandai Namco. Although Nintendo has specified a 2025 launch window for both the Switch and its successor versions, they have remained tight-lipped about an exact release date in recent months.
Metroid Prime 4 Is Almost Certainly Arriving in December
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled about the upcoming release of Kirby Air Riders on November 20th! This news has sparked quite a buzz, leading many to speculate that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond could be gracing us with its presence in December. Historically, Nintendo tends to avoid dropping two major titles in the same month, but there have been exceptions like August’s Drag x Drive on the eShop and the dual release of Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World this month. However, the latter is more of an enhanced version of a previous game. When it comes to fresh titles, Nintendo usually prefers to give them some breathing room, even if the intended audiences might overlap slightly. Fingers crossed that we’ll get another exciting announcement soon!
Sometimes, December can pose challenges for games due to the busy holiday season. Many highly-anticipated titles may get overshadowed amidst the festive excitement. For example, despite receiving critical acclaim, Marvel’s Midnight Suns struggled to find an audience after its late-2022 release. On the other hand, the buzz around Metroid Prime 4: Beyond could help it stand out even in a month that often sees varying results. Fans of the series have eagerly awaited a sequel since the last installment was released in 2007, suggesting that a December launch may not significantly hinder its success. Games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which debuted in December 2018, have also managed to thrive in this month.
When Will the MP4 Release Date Be Announced?
Although Nintendo hasn’t said much about Metroid Prime 4 since April, they’ve consistently maintained a release window of 2025. Given this, it’s likely we’ll hear an announcement soon, possibly during a Nintendo Direct in September. While Nintendo hasn’t officially announced such an event yet, there’s been plenty of speculation that we might witness a significant live stream that month. Historically, Nintendo has held Directs in September, although this year’s schedule may be slightly disrupted due to the upcoming launch of the Switch 2. However, with many questions still unanswered by Nintendo, a September event could provide much-needed clarity, going beyond just the release date for Metroid Prime 4.
As a dedicated Nintendo fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting what the gaming giant has in store for us this year, especially considering it’s the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros! With Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Kirby Air Riders already gracing our screens, there’s an exciting anticipation brewing about a potential September release from Nintendo.
I can’t help but dream about a surprise drop of a new Mario compilation or remaster, perhaps during some grand anniversary celebration – just like the Metroid Prime remaster that popped up on the eShop unexpectedly in 2023!
But let’s not forget about the other highly anticipated releases from Nintendo, such as Rhythm Heaven Groove, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, and the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. We’re definitely looking forward to more details on these titles in the coming months!
Currently, Nintendo enthusiasts will need to exercise some patience as they eagerly anticipate September’s upcoming reveals. Announcing Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in the coming month could serve as a fitting climax for the year and allow Nintendo sufficient time to generate excitement. As a cross-platform launch title (akin to Pokemon Legends: Z-A), Metroid Prime 4 might be one of the last major games to grace the original Switch before it’s eventually phased out. During my initial playtest earlier this year, the game left a lasting impression on me, but we’ll need to wait a while longer to ascertain if the developers at Retro Studios can truly deliver and meet expectations.
