Colman Domingo‘s evening with Katherine Jackson was a total thriller.

The actor, who plays Joe Jackson in the new Michael Jackson biopic Michael, attended the film’s Los Angeles premiere on April 20th with Michael Jackson’s mother, celebrating the upcoming release.

Colman shared on Instagram that all he needed was his wife Katherine’s love and support. He posted a photo of them together and described a wonderful evening filled with laughter and connection.

Katherine Jackson, 95, wasn’t the only member of the Jackson family at the Dolby Theatre. Michael’s siblings – La Toya, Jermaine, Marlon, and Jackie – were there, along with his son, Prince, and nephews Jaafar, Taj, and TJ. Jaafar Jackson is actually playing Michael in the new film.

Honestly, one of the best parts of what I do is seeing the positive impact we have. After a recent event, I just wanted to share how grateful I am for the incredible family who came out to support us and really connected with our work. Knowing we brought some joy to someone’s day – in this case, a wonderful woman – is the most rewarding feeling!

Notably missing from the family gathering was Paris Jackson, who had spoken out against the film beforehand. In a recent interview with WSJ. Magazine, the Euphoria actor expressed hope that Paris would eventually appreciate the film as a tribute to her father.

As for what the only daughter of Michael had said about Michael? 

Paris explained on Instagram in September that she decided to step back and let the project unfold without her involvement, as it wasn’t her responsibility. She hadn’t commented on it before because she believed many people would ultimately be pleased with the result.

She admitted she had some concerns about the movie, which covers her late father’s years with The Jackson 5 and the beginning of his solo career. She felt that a large part of it was designed to please a particular group of fans who still hold onto an idealized version of him, and they would likely enjoy it.

The 28-year-old expressed reservations about a movie being made about Michael’s life, explaining that she doesn’t think biopics are usually truthful to the person they portray.

Ugh, it’s just… frustrating, you know? When they make these movies about him, it feels so… fake. It’s Hollywood, after all! They don’t show the real story, they just give you this polished, sweetened version. It’s like they’re deliberately controlling what you’re allowed to see, and it drives me crazy! I want the truth, not some carefully crafted narrative!

Honestly, I just don’t get why people are making such a big deal out of this. Look, I truly believe you’re going to love the movie, so my advice is simple: go see it and have a good time! I’m happy for you to enjoy it without me – I’d really prefer it that way, actually.
