Michelle Obama’s Defense of The Real Housewives Fans Is a Slam Dunk

Michelle Obama thinks the Housewives are real MVPs.

In a recent statement, the ex-First Lady offered her unique perspective on the fan base of the popular reality TV show, “The Real Housewives,” likening it to how ESPN covers sports, explaining why she finds the comparisons intriguing.

Michelle stated on her IMO podcast on the 30th of July that sports are full of excitement, likening listening to ESPN for an hour to watching a season of ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’,” is one way to paraphrase the original sentence. This version maintains the meaning and tone while making it more natural and easy to read.

In the podcast, which she co-hosts with her brother Craig Robinson, the 61-year-old individual shared her perspective with guests Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. She expressed that the situation is similar to drama, where people are arguing and have strained relationships.

To Michelle, Stephen A. Smith on ESPN is seen as similar to any other talk show host, and Matt humorously suggests that he could make an excellent addition to the cast of a “Real Housewives” series.

Michelle then went on to explain her rationale.

The author pondered, “So I ask myself, ‘What’s the big deal?’ It’s all about sociological conflicts. People, even after spending time together, still can’t seem to see eye to eye. This isn’t exclusive to women; it happens in sports as well.

She added, “I find it fascinating.”

The women on the show, similar to many athletes, often spend time with each other, even though they frequently have disagreements.

Michelle exclaimed, ‘What’s the point of continuously dining together?’ She added, ‘It always turns sour. Also, avoid any future trips together.’

But as Bowen noted, one thing that sports has which the Bravo shows do not is stats.

The Saturday Night Live star shared his intrigue about sports, admitting he’s not very knowledgeable in the field. He enjoys how you can analyze stats and compare performances, which he finds engaging. He likened this to storytelling and wished reality shows like ‘Housewives’ had a similar aspect.

During the shows, you may not find all the statistics you desire, such as the count of fights per season; however, as Matt pointed out, during the reunion episodes, it feels much like comparing the teams’ rankings at the end of each season.

The Las Culturistas podcast co-host explained, “People often discuss it this way: ‘Oh, she’s in the one spot, or the two spot.’ They might say, ‘Check her out, she’s way out in no man’s land, sitting right at the end of the couch.'” This gives a sense of its unique quality.

In a failed attempt to draw attention to our country’s capital, four women of little note united – Mary Amons, Lynda Erkiletian, Cat Ommanney, and Stacie Scott Turner. There was one, however, who was so eager for the spotlight that she intruded upon a White House gathering. We’ll delve deeper into her story later on.

Who?

Vaguely familiar, but…

Once upon a time, DeShawn starred on the same TV show as NeNe Leakes. Surprising, we know.

This one-season Housewife brought nothing to the Orange County table.

In January 2022, Utah’s second season Housewife, Jennie, was let go following a backlash over her past offensive and racially insensitive remarks on Facebook. These comments were made public again, causing controversy. Later, she expressed regret but the harm had already been inflicted.

Her defining trait was “cougar.”

During season 16, the doctor from Orange County was more of a calm presence rather than a source of drama. Her marital issues with her perpetually shirtless husband, Ryne (or possibly Ryan), were not particularly captivating. However, who could forget Dr. Jen’s highly intoxicated state during the Dubrows’ incredibly awkward yet entertaining dinner party, where she got quite tipsy on wine?

The initial period of work for the nurse anesthetist can be succinctly described with a term that we sincerely hope to forget – “Esophagus-incident.

Katie often spoke passionately about her philanthropic endeavors, yet didn’t seem very active on-screen. She was more like a one-time appearance, and when she returned, she didn’t add much to the friend dynamics. Skipping out on the cast trip? That would be quite unacceptable for a Housewives.

During her two seasons as a full-time Housewife, Charrisse’s marital issues became quite prominent, making them among the most notable aspects of her time on the show, alongside her champagne room.

A one-and-done Housewife, Shamari was at least fun?

In season 12, it was refreshing to observe a touch of diversity among the previously all-white O.C. cast, but unfortunately, Peggy became a source of frustration due to her peculiar choices of conflicts and her tendency to engage in arguments that often revolved around words she didn’t comprehend. Her decision to seclude herself in her room for an entire day during the trip to Iceland further demonstrated that she might not be well-suited for the fast-paced lifestyle of a Real Housewife.

Instead of developing a connection with Nigerian co-star Wendy Osefo during season eight, Nneka’s first season narrative primarily revolved around an alleged accusation that her mother was a witch (indeed, quite extraordinary). It would have been captivating to observe the pair bridging their shared cultural ties instead of engaging in conflict without resolution.

In a whirlwind manner, Noella moved swiftly through season 16, much like a tempestuous burst of frenetic enthusiasm. Although her private hardships (her husband James departing the country and filing for divorce just before filming commenced) had an element of intrigue, it was her ongoing turmoil with Heather Dubrow that prevented her from sinking too low in the rankings. With additional time and another season, we might grow more fond of Noella Bergener.

In her debut season, she was known for maintaining peace, but her behavior took a drastic turn in her final season. Instead of continued harmony, there were constant complaints about a cake being thrown and allegations of anti-Semitism that seemed unfounded. It’s hard to recall such a swift decline in reputation on “Real Housewives” as this one.

It appeared that everything Amber and her spouse, Jim, undertook had an air of urgency or despondence about it. Moreover, Jim seemed to be embroiled in more of the chaos than Amber was. It’s not a very appealing situation.

What stands out about Karen is primarily that she was a dentist, and it appeared as if her fellow cast members didn’t care for her very much. Moving on!

This was a real person with a show on Bravo. We promise.

Among the more recent short-term cast members on “RHONY”, Jules didn’t stay long enough to be ranked higher, but she certainly provided an ample amount of dramatic moments.

So unnecessary they couldn’t even get individual taglines.

Similar to Sara Al Madani, Nina embodied a multi-faceted, accomplished Arab woman who skillfully combined contemporary lifestyle with ancient cultural customs. She managed to steer clear of the majority of the first season’s drama and occasionally found herself overshadowed by her co-stars’ more prominent, boisterous personas.

Taleen proved to be a valuable asset during RHODubai’s second season, however, with just one season under our belt, it’s challenging to make a definitive assessment of her performance.

In seasons 11 and 12 of “America’s Next Top Model,” the long-time contestant chose a peach, but failed to leave a significant mark on the realm of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” other than being pregnant for a considerable period. However, she did earn some points for her remarkable reading of Marlo Hampton during their time in Tokyo.

Every time, I’ve learned that it takes more than just one season to rank a new Housewife higher in my book. However, Katie didn’t wait for the usual routine during the 18th season of RHOC. She dived right in, squaring off against veteran Housewife Heather Dubrow no less! It requires a fearless woman to challenge someone as grandiose as Ms. Fancypants, and Katie showed she’s got the guts for it!

Sara’s sunny, insightful perspective on life was generally delightful, yet lacked much dramatic tension (except for that instance when she gave Caroline Brooks some unsolicited parenting advice that wasn’t warmly received). Nevertheless, this tech entrepreneur broke down barriers and challenged the conventional image of a contemporary Muslim woman in the Middle East, earning our admiration.

The newcomers on “RHONJ” (Real Housewives of New Jersey) in season 13 seemed to embody the stereotypical New Jersey housewife and got entangled in a season-long squabble over trivial matters that Andy Cohen considered insignificant during the reunion. Sadly, these ex-friends didn’t contribute much depth in the following season 14.

In the initial season, Larsa didn’t leave a strong impact and departed from the show. When the revival of RHOM took place for season four in 2021, her narrative focused primarily on her past friendship with Kim Kardashian and her online business selling foot photos on OnlyFans. (This information is implied but not explicitly stated.)

After appearing as a Bravolebrity for one season, she attempted to compete in season 12 of ‘Next Food Network Star’ in 2016, but unfortunately, she wasn’t successful there as well.

Sadly, she seemed to serve primarily as an object of criticism for Brandi Glanville. Moreover, her catchphrase, which glorified the questionable idea that one can never be too slim, was distasteful.
