Microids and Breakfirst Games are bringing the popular board game King of Tokyo, created by Richard Garfield, to video game consoles and PC. Players can expect the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Steam in spring 2026.
Here is an overview of the game, via Microids:
About
Become a giant monster and wreak havoc in this quick-playing dice game! Roll the dice to create powerful combinations and dominate Tokyo. You can heal, attack, purchase cards, or earn points to claim victory.
Time your moves carefully to become King of Tokyo and then strike all your opponents at once.
The game ends when someone reaches 20 Victory Points, but it also ends if only one player remains! Both the first to reach the point goal and the last player standing are winners.
Key Features
- Build Your Strategy – Roll the dice and choose wisely which ones to keep. Whether you decide to keep your dice or reroll, each decision is crucial to your winning strategy. Turn into a glass canon with powerful cards to reduce your opponents’ hit points to 0, play it safe and quickly collect Victory Points, or build up health to become a tank: the choice is yours.
- Choose Your Kaiju – Unleash the kaiju within you and rule over Tokyo! The mighty Gigazaur, the cute Cyber Kitty or maybe the otherworldly Alienoid, choose the invader that suits you best.
- Battle Over Tokyo Against AI or Against Your Friends – Test your strategies by competing against the AI in the solo mode, and find the strategy that matches you. Challenge up to five of your friends in the couch multiplayer mode to prove who the mightiest kaiju is!
- A Unique Recreation – (Re)discover King of Tokyo in a dynamic recreation of the critically acclaimed board game. Immerse yourself in the ukiyo-e inspired art style (Japanese woodblock prints and painting style).
