Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, recently responded to online criticism regarding Copilot and AI features in Windows. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed surprise that some users aren’t excited about being able to have natural conversations with an AI-powered computer.
Suleyman finds it amusing when people dismiss AI as disappointing. He explains that having grown up with simple games like Snake on a Nokia phone, he’s amazed by the current capabilities of AI – being able to have natural conversations and create images or videos seems incredible to him.
This post follows a recent wave of criticism directed at Pavan Davuluri, president of Windows. He faced strong negative reactions after discussing the future of Windows as an ‘agentic OS,’ forcing him to disable comments on his post. He later responded to address the concerns and let users know the company had heard their feedback.
Suleyman’s announcement comes at a strange time, following a recent report from The Verge that raised concerns about Copilot. The Verge found that Copilot often couldn’t perform tasks as well as Microsoft suggests in its advertising, frequently struggling to complete requests smoothly or naturally.
It’s amazing how many people are quick to dismiss AI. I find it funny when I hear folks say it’s not impressive. Considering I grew up with the simple game Snake on a Nokia, the ability to have a natural conversation with a powerful AI that can create images and videos feels absolutely incredible to me. Microsoft’s timing could be better. They’ve just unveiled a new slogan for Windows – ‘Your canvas for AI’ – as they try to transform the operating system with the help of AI. The idea is to have AI assistants that can handle tasks for users, but with AI technology – especially Copilot – still developing, that future feels a long way off.
Microsoft is currently facing criticism for its priorities. Many users feel the company is too focused on adding AI features while Windows itself has significant problems that need fixing. It seems like they’re pushing AI into everything, instead of addressing the core issues with their operating system.
Microsoft’s president acknowledges the company needs to improve Windows for experienced users and developers, and ideally, concentrate on features beyond artificial intelligence. However, given Microsoft’s recent heavy investment in AI, it seems unlikely that the next version of Windows won’t be filled with AI features that many users haven’t requested.
Okay, so I just read through Suleyman’s response to all the recent complaints about Windows and Copilot, and honestly, it didn’t really calm my nerves. He’s clearly all-in on AI being *the* future – like, woven into everything we do with software and every experience we have. It’s a pretty ambitious vision, and now that users are speaking up and pushing back, it’s going to be interesting to see how Microsoft and Windows evolve from here. I’m definitely keeping an eye on this!
