Users have been asking for this for a long time, and now it’s available in the newest Windows 11 update! Microsoft is letting you open the notification center from the Taskbar on any screen, even if it’s not your main display.
As a Windows 11 user, I was running into this really annoying bug with my multiple monitors. If I tried to open the notification center from the little system tray icon on a screen *other* than my main one, absolutely nothing would happen! It’s great to see they’re finally fixing these kinds of issues.
The issue occurred because Microsoft didn’t make the Taskbar work the same way on all screens. While your primary monitor had a fully working Taskbar, secondary monitors were limited to a simpler version that didn’t allow access to features like the Notification Center.

Windows is now letting you view and interact with the Notification Center on any connected monitor. You can open it by clicking the date and time display in the bottom-right corner of your screen, in the taskbar.
As an analyst, I’ve been tracking a lot of user requests, and this feature has consistently been at the top of the list since Windows 11 launched. It always seemed odd to me that the Taskbar couldn’t open the notification center on any monitor *except* the primary one. Before now, users had to move their mouse all the way back to the main screen just to see if they’d missed anything. It’s a small change, but a really impactful one for power users.
Things have improved, but the Windows 11 Taskbar still lacks important features that many users feel are essential. Unlike older versions of Windows, you can’t move the Taskbar from its fixed position at the bottom of the screen – you can’t place it on the top or sides.
