Xbox Game Studios and Asobo Studio will bring Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 to PlayStation 5 on December 8th. They also announced that support for PlayStation VR2 will be added with a free update in 2026.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 became available on November 19, 2024, for Xbox Series and PC players through Steam and the Microsoft Store.
Here is a message from Microsoft Flight Simulator head Jorg Neumann:
For over forty years, the *Microsoft Flight Simulator* series has been a favorite among pilots and simulation enthusiasts. We’re excited to bring this incredible experience to PlayStation for the very first time when *Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024* launches on December 8th for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. This is the most realistic and authentic consumer flight simulator ever created.
Our flight simulator boasts the most extensive and detailed aircraft collection ever created, featuring up to 125 different planes. You’ll find everything from small, agile ultralights and everyday planes to iconic bush trip aircraft, helicopters, innovative eVTOLs, and even airships and steerable balloons. We also include luxurious business jets, a full range of airliners – both narrow and wide-body – and powerful military transport and fighter aircraft.
Okay, so playing this on PlayStation is seriously awesome because they really used the DualSense controller to its full potential. The triggers actually change how they feel depending on what I’m doing – like, I can *feel* the difference between surfaces on the ground, and even get a sense of drag when I’m flying. It’s wild! They even piped the air traffic control chatter through the controller itself, which makes it feel like I’m actually in the cockpit. Plus, the gyro controls, lightbar, and customizable touchpad just add to the whole immersive experience. It really pulls you in!
Now, aviation fans can experience the freedom of flight like never before on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro! For the first time on PlayStation, you can fly anywhere in the world, at any time of day or year, and land at over 40,000 airports, runways, and 60,000 helipads. Explore every continent with incredible detail, either solo or with friends from around the globe, and even fly alongside real-time air traffic. PlayStation 5 players will push their skills in highly detailed aircraft, tested for realistic flight by actual pilots. And in 2026, PS VR2 owners will be able to fully immerse themselves in the experience with a free update using their headset and Sense controllers.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 features a completely new career mode designed to teach new players how to fly a wide range of aircraft. Players can take on a huge number of missions and activities around the globe, building their skills and reputation to unlock exciting jobs like firefighting, search and rescue, construction, and farming. PlayStation 5 players will also find extra challenges like landing trials, rally races, and a competitive Challenge League to test their abilities against others.
Once players are done with racing, PlayStation offers a calmer experience where they can fly around and take pictures of famous places, landmarks, and even look for rare animals around the globe.
Just in time for the release of the PlayStation 5, players will get to experience what it’s like to fly faster than the speed of sound in a virtual version of Boom Supersonic’s XB-1, the first privately developed supersonic jet in the United States.
The PlayStation 5 version of *Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024*, created by Asobo Studio and Microsoft Game Studios, will receive ongoing updates – both free content packs focusing on the world and larger simulator improvements. Players can also find a wide variety of new planes, airports, and other additions thanks to a thriving community of independent creators offering their work through the simulator’s marketplace.
Get ready to take to the skies with *Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024* on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro! Pre-order any version of the game and you’ll receive the iconic Northrop T38-A Talon aircraft on December 8th. If you pre-order the Deluxe, Premium Deluxe, or Aviator Edition, you can start flying even earlier with early access beginning December 3rd.
The sky is calling!
