As a researcher tracking Microsoft Edge, I’ve noticed some significant UI changes rolling out in the latest Canary and Dev builds. It appears the design is being heavily influenced by Copilot, with the browser adopting a similar look and feel. We can expect to see a major visual refresh in the coming months.
The design has been refreshed to match the look and feel of Copilot. You’ll notice changes in areas like context menus, the new tab page, and settings, with elements now featuring rounded corners and the same colors and fonts as the Copilot app.
During testing, we found that the new interface design shows up whether or not Copilot Mode is turned on. The only difference is on the New Tab Page: when Copilot Mode is off, it displays MSN news and Bing search instead of the Copilot features.

The Microsoft Copilot app features a completely new visual style, different from anything else Microsoft has created recently. It marked a significant departure from the Fluent Design system Microsoft has used for its products over the past few years, and first appeared with the initial release of Copilot.
Windows 11 and the Copilot app have very different visual styles. Windows 11 uses Fluent Design, while Copilot has its own unique look. Currently, Copilot feels separate from the rest of Microsoft’s design, but it appears this new style might be expanded to other Microsoft products in the future.
Microsoft is experimenting with a fresh look for its products, starting with Copilot Discover, an AI-enhanced version of MSN.com – internally, this project might be called “Ruby.” While Windows and Xbox haven’t been updated with this new design yet, Microsoft will likely need to extend it to those platforms if they aim for a consistent look across all their products.

Microsoft is testing a redesigned look for Edge in its early access versions (Canary and Dev Channels). It’s being released gradually, so not everyone has it yet. We expect it will take several weeks before the new design appears in the regular, released version of Edge.
