In recent months, Microsoft has been rapidly developing its own generative AI technology, signaling a move towards greater independence from OpenAI. They introduced two new AI models, MAI-Voice-1 and MAI-1-preview, in August.
The company recently launched its own tool for creating images from text, called MAI-Image-1. According to Microsoft’s AI leader, Mustafa Suleyman, you can now use this custom image generator within Bing Image Creator and Copilot Audio Expressions. Currently, it’s not available to users in the European Union, but it should be released there shortly.
The company executive explained that MAI-Image-1 is particularly good at creating realistic images of landscapes, food, and scenes with beautiful lighting – skills that make it stand out from many bigger, but slower, image generators.
This tool lets you quickly bring your ideas to life with both speed and high quality. You can easily experiment and make changes, and then seamlessly move your work to other programs for further polishing.

You can now choose MAI-Image-1 as your go-to model within the Bing Image Creator app. DALL-E 3 from OpenAI and GPT-4o are still available if you’d prefer to use them.
