Microsoft, a prominent U.S. technology company, intends to allocate approximately $3 billion to boost its services related to cloud computing and artificial intelligence within the Indian market.
This investment entails offering AI education to half a million people and setting up additional data facilities.
On January 8th, Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, disclosed that the company would invest a total of $3 billion in India over a period of two years to strengthen its Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure. He described this as “our most extensive expansion ever in India.” This declaration was made during the Microsoft AI Tour held in Bengaluru.
Microsoft is collaborating with INDIAai, a government-backed AI initiative from India, as part of their plan. Their aim is to educate half a million people in AI by the year 2026. In addition, they hope to equip a total of 10 million individuals in India with cloud and AI skills by the year 2030.
Microsoft plans for wide-scale AI training
According to a top-level executive from the company, it’s been announced that the AI training program will be accessible to students, teachers, software developers, government representatives, and female business owners, as reported by The Economic Times.
Based on Nadella’s statements, the $3 billion investment will be utilized to strengthen Azure’s capabilities within India. Following a discussion with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nadella expressed that India’s vibrant entrepreneurial spirit instills Microsoft with the conviction to introduce essential compute capabilities into the upcoming AI ecosystem.
Microsoft signs partnerships to offer cloud and AI services
Furthermore, Microsoft has entered into strategic alliances with RailTel, Apollo Hospitals, Bajaj Finserv, the Mahindra Group, and upGrad to empower their respective teams and clients by providing them access to cutting-edge cloud and artificial intelligence technologies.
Microsoft’s India and South Asia president, Puneet Chandok, shared that since the year 2024, the company has successfully trained over two million Indians. Additionally, they are working on establishing “AI Innovation Boosters” to foster AI development in less populated cities and communities.
