Microsoft’s Copilot AI gets a prime time debut on Samsung’s 2025 TVs and smart monitors — with a new “face” to boot

This year at CES, both Samsung and LG unveiled plans for Microsoft’s Copilot AI integration into their smart TVs. The goal is to enhance the viewer’s experience by enabling them to create personalized TV backdrops and receive tailored show suggestions based on their viewing patterns.

Samsung has revealed, in conjunction with Microsoft’s statement, that starting from their 2025 lineup of TVs and smart monitors, they have incorporated Copilot into their systems. This development is an extension of Samsung’s goal to deliver a more customized and intelligent experience on screen using Samsung Vision AI. Users can interact with Copilot on Samsung TVs through the Samsung Tizen OS home interface, Samsung Daily+, or Click to Search features.

By integrating advanced AI features, Samsung’s user experience will be enhanced, allowing individuals to effortlessly find information, interact with content, and maximize the potential of their devices’ screens.

The latest gadgets will come pre-installed with Copilot AI, which can be found on the screen itself. This means you can effortlessly utilize its advanced features using voice commands or the remote control. The design is similar to what we see on mobile devices now, but instead of a phone, you’ll be able to search, learn, and interact with content straight from your television.

As stated by Kevin Lee, who holds the position of Executive Vice President within Samsung Electronics’ Customer Experience Team for its Visual Display (VD) division,…

Via our collaborations with open AI technologies, Samsung is redefining the way AI enhances display screens. With Copilot, users can easily and enjoyably access customized assistance for a wide range of activities, such as learning new things, enjoying media, managing daily tasks, and much more.

Samsung is still all-in on AI

As a researcher exploring the latest developments, I can say that Samsung isn’t new to the world of artificial intelligence. They’ve been venturing into this domain for some time now, and it shows in their efforts like Bixby, their voice assistant integrated across their premium Galaxy devices. Additionally, features such as Click to Search are part of their offerings on these devices too.

This function enables you to explore further details about any item displayed on your screen, by executing an extensive web search, all while remaining on the current page – much like Google’s “Circle to Search” functionality.

Samsung’s new feature, Copilot, will be incorporated into their premium devices, aiming to enhance the user experience by making it more interactive and user-friendly. This integration further strengthens Samsung Daily+, which serves as a multifunctional hub for entertainment, food, wellness, and various other aspects of daily life.

According to David Washington, Partner General Manager, Microsoft AI:

Samsung’s Copilot, your AI companion, is specially designed to feel at home in your living room. With Samsung’s superior display technology leading the way, we aim to provide an immersive experience where you can easily find something to watch, ask questions, plan activities, or just relax and share moments, all on the largest screen in your house.

This announcement arrives as Microsoft rolls out fresh capabilities to their Copilot AI. As per Microsoft’s AI chief executive, Mustafa Suleyman, the vision is to evolve Copilot beyond merely being a digital assistant, aiming instead for it to serve as a genuine friend and confidant.

The AI assistant, or Copilot, will maintain a consistent identity and presence, residing within its designated space, and it will evolve over time as if aging. I find the concept of digital patina particularly intriguing… currently, the digital realm lacks the ability to show signs of age… this idea of timelessness is quite foreign to us at present, indeed, the notion of infinity is truly alien.

Microsoft AI CEO, Mustafa Suleyman

It’s worth noting that Microsoft has introduced a new feature for its AI chatbot, named Copilot Appearance. This update gives the bot an animated face that responds and speaks during conversations. However, this feature is still in developmental stages and is being gradually rolled out to users residing in the U.S., U.K., and Canada.

It’s intriguing to anticipate how Copilot will be received on television screens. We’ll eagerly await the user feedback to find out if this innovation could potentially enhance the technology employed by streaming giants such as Netflix for program suggestions.
