Midsomer Murders show The Killings at Badger’s Drift offers stunning look at on-stage mystery

The popular TV series Midsomer Murders was adapted into a stage play for the first time last October, and due to its success, will be performed again in 2026.

This play, praised with a five-star review by TopMob.com, is based on the first story from the ITV drama and the original novel, Killings at Badger’s Drift, by Caroline Graham.

When beloved village resident Emily Simpson is found dead in her charming home, DCI Tom Barnaby – now portrayed by Daniel Casey, who originally played a supporting role in the series – returns to investigate.

He explained that the play will stay true to the spirit of the original TV show, and fans of the series are sure to enjoy it.

“They’ll have the Rainbirds there, don’t worry!”

If you still need convincing, a full trailer for the play is now available, showcasing the new actors playing Barnaby and Troy. You can watch it right here.

The opening scenes feature striking visuals of the townspeople—who are all potential suspects—and the detectives as they arrive, giving viewers a strong preview of the story to come.

Casey shared that, of all the Midsomer stories, ‘Badger’s Drift’ was always intended to be the most popular and memorable one.

He explained that the story is fantastic – it’s really dark, complex, and features incredibly unique and interesting characters, making it perfect for a stage adaptation.

The TV show has a strong, almost stage-like quality. British actors are naturally good at playing the quirky village characters, and they fit perfectly into that dramatic setting.

The show’s UK tour begins in Truro this January, with performances planned in cities like Glasgow, Nottingham, and Derby. The tour will conclude in Bath this June.

Tickets for the show are still available at ATG Tickets or the respective venue ticketing sites.
