It’s rare for a show to truly capture the spirit of an era, but Mighty Morphin Power Rangers did just that, building a dedicated fanbase along the way. The Power Rangers are returning in a new series, though it features a different team than the original. We’re now getting a closer look at what to expect, and details hint at what happened to the Green Ranger.
BOOM! Studios has given fans a sneak peek at what the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers – Jason, Zack, Trini, Billy, and Kimberly – look like ten years later. The preview (shared with EW) shows the Rangers have moved on with their lives, but will reunite to face a new villain named Rita Rabiosa. We also see a glimpse of this new, formidable Rita and learn that the Green Ranger was intended to join the team’s comeback, but something prevented it.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Have Very Much Grown Apart

It’s immediately obvious that the Rangers have changed a lot over the past decade and drifted apart. This is a completely fresh start for the series, with no connections to the previous storylines or events.
In this version of the story, Jason now teaches martial arts and loves working with children. Trini has become a diplomat, and we’ll learn more about her current role in the first comic issue. As for Zack, he’s a public defender, using the same courage he showed as a hero to help people who need it most.
Kimberly was a hugely successful gymnast, but she’s now in her mid-20s and starting to think about life after her athletic career. This is a different situation than the others, who are just beginning their professional lives in their 20s. And then there’s Billy, who has remained connected to his Power Rangers days by staying in Angel Grove to mentor new Rangers.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ Original Threat Returns In A New Way

When a new danger emerges – one that only the original Power Rangers can handle – Billy creates a portal to bring them back to the Command Center. This time, the threat comes from Rita Rabiosa, a different Rita than the one they fought for years. This version of Rita followed the path seen in Mystic Force and became the Mystic Mother, meaning she isn’t the same villain the Rangers previously knew.
Rita Rabiosa is even more ruthless and vengeful than the original Rita, and that’s saying a lot considering Rita’s past. She needs the Power Rangers’ help to finish a secret task, which will inevitably lead to clashes with them. This will be particularly challenging because the Rangers haven’t used their powers in a decade, making it a tough fight.

Tommy’s introduction is also key to the story. The first issue shows he was meant to travel through the portal with the other Rangers, but something went wrong. While the details are still unclear, we know Tommy is present, and hopefully we’ll learn more about his experiences soon.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 is scheduled to hit comic stores on June 3rd, 2026.
