After a quiet year, the Power Rangers franchise is back in action! With a new live-action series coming to Disney+, three new comic book series from BOOM! Studios, and a fresh line of toys in development, it’s an exciting time for fans. Amidst all this, it’s easy to overlook another Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series that was delayed for quite some time – but now, there’s finally some good news about its progress.
Last year, fans were excited about the final installment of Power Rangers Ninja Kidz, which promised to bring back the original cast and finish a story that began with fan contributions in 2017. However, the release was uncertain due to reported production problems. Recently, a representative from Playmates Toys at a toy industry event indicated they believe they’ve resolved those issues with Hasbro, and the series is now expected to be released later this year.
Will Power Rangers Ninja Kidz’ Finale Finally Release, and What’s Holding it Up?

If you haven’t seen Power Rangers Ninja Kidz, the series started on the Ninja Kidz YouTube channel in 2017. It became very popular, and over nine episodes, fans watched the young actors grow up while playing their roles as Power Rangers. The final episode was released in 2022.
For a long time, fans of the show have wanted a satisfying conclusion to the story. Last year, they got exciting news: many of the original actors were coming back to finish the series and give it the ending it deserved.
Early set photos and glimpses of action sequences looked really good, and the new costumes were a hit, creating positive buzz. However, that changed when trailer footage leaked, revealing noticeable AI-generated visual effects, particularly with the characters Lord Zedd and Goldar. This immediately upset fans online, but it turned out there were also other problems happening during production.
Shane Myler, the creator of Ninja Kidz, explained the project’s current situation to Legacy of Nerd. He said that both Hasbro and Playmates Toys initially responded positively to a draft of the teaser and the first episode in September. However, Hasbro sent a cease and desist letter in October, arguing that Playmates Toys didn’t have the right to make an agreement regarding Ninja Kidz. Hasbro also expressed concern that the high production quality of the episodes could conflict with their own planned reboot for Disney+.
Myler explained that the AI-generated effects in the leaked teaser trailer were temporary. The trailer was a preliminary version shown to Hasbro, and those effects were only stand-ins, intended to be replaced with final versions once everything was approved and the creative direction was finalized.
Things were quiet for a while regarding the show, but fans recently spotted the Ninja Kidz logo at the Playmates Toys booth during Toy Fair, alongside the new figures for the Re-Ignition line. This was a good sign, and now it looks like there’s been positive progress on the series, potentially leading to a release later this year. I’m really hoping it comes out – it showed a lot of potential, and it would be a fitting conclusion to a wonderful fan project that deserves recognition.
